The gap is there because it came with 2 square stick-on rubber pads,that get stuck on at the bottom,and they are missing.That's how my CM side locker came.Nice looking side cab! Steve

I use mine with a 1/4 inch size tap socket on it for cutting threads or installing heli-coils.I use the 3/8 one for the 3/8 tap sockets.It's handy for those tasks,but I think that's the only time I use it. Steve
