Rigid 5-tool combo with 2 free tools - more choices available in store

Wanted to buy the Rigid 5-tool combo from Home Depot for $449 and get the two free tools. Problem was, the free tool combos on-line were not to my liking. They had an angle grinder and a mulit-tool but I already have an angle grinder or a multi-tool and a impact driver but the 5-tool kit has an...

My 24x40x10 pole barn build tread

I guess I never really understood why guys build "man caves" to do stuff to get away from their wife and kids. Sure, everyone needs a hobby and some alone time but, for me, there is no more fun than spending a day with my wife and/or kids and working hard together. Maybe I am lucky that I got a...

    My 24x32x10 build, Finally!

You are going to love the recycled asphalt! I used 30 tons for my 24X40. Compacted hard as concrete. In fact, It had been down for a few weeks, compacted and rained on and I went to put my floor drains in and had to pick ax through the stuff. It is a great base for concrete. No cracks in my...

Mini Split Effectiveness - A/C and Heat Options

I purchased mine from Alpine Home Air. I did not get HyperHeat (I have two forced air furnaces as back up heat for the few days a year I might need it). Here is an example of one of their HyperHeat units with the -22 spec: https://www.alpinehomeair.com/viewproduct.cfm?productID=453076305

Mini Split Effectiveness - A/C and Heat Options

I just purchased 6 indoor heads and three outdoor heat pumps from Alpine Home Air. I did not get hyper heat yet I was told my non-hyper units will heat down to -13 while hyper heats down to -22. I am still in the process of installing (and it's not the middle of winter yet here in northern Ohio)...

My 24x40x10 pole barn build tread

No, but I ordered a yard or so extra to pour a floor in a nearby root cellar where my air compressor sits so I had more than enough.

What's the best back fill for a new slab?

I used 30 ton of asphalt road grindings. Compact it, let it rain on it a few times, it was hard as concrete. I had to use a pick ax to put in my floor drains.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Detailed my car. Wash, clay, wash, wet sand, compound, polish, seal, wax. A black car is like a full time job but it looks so good when it is clean - or at least for the next 10 mins after you clean it.

    Hyperikon Lighting Quality

Bought $3000.00 worth of those exact Hyperikon LED lights for an LED conversion for our church. FANTASTIC!! The product, and even more so the company, are top notch. 3 or 4 lights were DOA and they overnighted new ones to us. Their "hassle-free UNLIMITED 5 Year Warranty" is very hassle-free...

    Matching old brick

Same here. I had to replace 10-15 bricks on my chimney. I asked a brick mason that lives around the corner from me. He knew who built the house, what brick he used, knew what mine was called and told me a place about 30 mins away that had what I needed.

    Wood burner and insurance qualifications

Put a homemade double barrel wood stove in my pole barn. Called Allstate asked them if it would be a problem and my agent told me they didn't care at all what was in my barn; house might be a different story.

My solution to bench grinder and vice location

I don't use my bench grinder or vice very often so having them mounted to my work bench means they are usually just in the way. I came up with a different idea for my new shop. I fabricated two brackets out of 2" square tube that I will mount my vice\grinder to. The brackets will fit into a...

    Reciprocating saw blades

Bought a Dewalt recip saw this summer and noticed the same thing. In fact, I took it back to Home Depot to get a replacement since I thought something must be wrong. They didn't have one in stock so I went home with it and tried a different blade - Lenox this time - and no wobble. I agree that...

1 or 2 day welding projects

When I bought my first welder, my wife asked why I needed a welder. (I am a computer guy by profession) I said "how else am I supposed to build a welding cart?".
