Craftsman USA Factory - Bad News

The new Craftsman plant is in Fort Worth, while Proto/Mac has a large plant in Dallas. Dallas/Fort Worth is one big metro area, shouldn't be to hard to retain a large number of employees if production moves to the new plant, if they choose that route. Should be interesting to see if Stanley has...

Craftsman USA Factory - Bad News

Yes, Proto and Mac are not sold in retail stores, Snap-on is not sold in retail stores either. All three plus several other brands sell top shelf products for the most part. If folks want these tools, they are available, just not at the big box store with walk in convenience and rock bottom...

Craftsman USA Factory - Bad News

Stanley Black&Decker already had two premium lines of hand tools that are mostly made in the USA under the trade names of Proto and Mac long before buying Craftsman. I never expected them to make Craftsman a premium USA made hand tool line and expected them to keep importing a mid grade tool to...

    Good bypass pruners

I use loppers a lot on the farm and have been impressed by the Bahco Professional Bypass Loppers with round aluminum handles. They are made in France.

Yost no longer makes vises in the USA

The last Yost machinist vise I bought was in 2016 while they were still advertising them as made in the USA. Looked just like the imports that were sold later, no USA cast in the vise. Had a lot of slop in the slide, finally got tired of the slop and sold it.

looking at vise, 1600$ wilton, seriously?

Most 6" chinese vises can't really compare to a Wilton 600. I would pick a Wilton 400 over the 6" Chinese vises I have seen. Like some others have said, maybe a 6" Yost ADI might work for your budget. Ridgid vises look good for the money.

    Dilemma... Dewalt or Milwaukee?

Currently running my first battery powered Milwaukee drill, a M18 Fuel and it seems to do great without much battery recharging. I have had 3 Dewalt's over the last 20 years or so from a 12v to 18v Ni-cad. Found a really good deal on a Red drill, so I decided to try it. Batteries improvements...

    Wilton 600 vise value?

It would be stroke of good luck to find a 600 in good shape like the photo for $500 in this area.

Wilton 3-1/2" Model C-0 Combo Vise (listed for sale - SUGGESTIONS?)

A new CO wouldn't be for sale long at $400 around my area, it would be gone.

Wilton 3-1/2" Model C-0 Combo Vise (listed for sale - SUGGESTIONS?)

I'm no expert, but this Wilton vise looks like the real deal to me.

    Welder purchase advice? 👍

The best coarse of action is to figure out what Dad has in mind on the type, brand and capabilities of his future welder. Welders are to expensive to guess at.

My old DeWalt drill's 18V Ni-Cd batteries finally died beyond use, here is it's replacement.

Recommend a flashlight for a farmer

Surefire G2X TACTICAL works on the farm for me. It's small, powerful for it's size and takes 2 CR123A batteries. It's fairly reasonable on price, considering the quality of the product.

What can you expect from a Chinese vise these days?

The last Yost vise we got in was a Taiwan made machinist vise. It had a way to much slop in the front jaw, seemed the hole for the screw was to big. Didn't really notice it until I was doing some precision work one day, by that time it had been used and it showed, so I didn't send it back, but I...
