I see what you are saying about the tie bar being under tension. That makes sense. I'll definitely be going with 2x6 walls and I'd like to really strengthen the top plate to help carry the weight.

The company I'm dealing has been building these for 40+ years. He basically didn't say either way when I asked, just that he'd rather set them on a post. Don't think he's ever done it another way.

You're right. I didn't think about the bottom "stabilizer" not having any bracing. I haven't seen the trusses in person, but was told there would be extra bracing. I will have to check that out.
