So do I need to remove the head to get at this?

Ok so here is one of the intake valves taken apart. To me they look fine, everything is loose and the diaphragm is not torn? That being said I'm extremely new to compressors.

How brittle are they supposed to be? I have a set of the Noresmans and I broke an extractor quite easily, today actually. I thought they'd be tougher. Does anyone else have experience with this?
