    Raising garage due to flooding.

The other option is see is to knockdown the driveway where the black trailer is.. slope the driveway towards the street and build a retaining wall along the side of the house so you don't loose the backfill. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Raising garage due to flooding.

I'm guessing you don't have permits and building inspectors in your area? If you do, I'd hunt down the inspector that signed off on that permit. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

Slab with two hydronic zones: thermal break?

You could do it as described, I don't see a problem with it.. mind you I'm a mechanic not a builder. My question is: are you planning on insulating the walls in the parking area? I'm assuming so, since you stated about possibly heating it in the future.. So what I'm getting at is : with no...

Air tools not getting enough? Fittings causing issue?

Get rid of the 3way manifold and juice up the regulator to 125-130psi. What is the tank pressure, not sure if you can jack it up higher than 125, but it would help as the compressor cut-in pressure will be higher and you won't have a big loss at the hose end. I.e.: my compressor runs at...

Shop is built, now the wife wants a shower in it, what to do?

You won't need a p-trap if it doesn't connect to the sewer system.. maybe a screen to keep critters out. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

Moving... best way to pack tools?

Remove drawers from tool boxes.. move box upstairs onto moving truck.. reinstall drawers into boxes.. shrink wrap the box if your locks don't work well.. no need to take the tools out and pack them in something else. I've moved a tool box no less than 10 times Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Uniform locker modification ideas wanted

I like this idea.. if you went 3 blow molded case per unit.. thats 24 tools in cases, with their chargers. The gun cabinet is a good idea too.. but I'm Canadian, so not my first thought. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Monolithic slab questions

Something that big, I would be hiring someone to do it. Do you not need engineered drawings for your foundation.? The drawing would show all that is required for rebar and forming. In my area any building over 700 sqft requires engineered foundation and roof. Sent from my SM-G903W using...

Any of you guys tried one of these coolant/air suckers

They are supposed to work good.. my shop requires us to use it on diesels with EGR coolers to ensure the cooler is full on start up Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Raising the roof

Insulate the roof (properly for your area) and install a ceiling. White vinyl siding is also an option..then you can build shelving around the perimeter from 8 to 12 ft... even a 2ft wide shelf up 8ft high by 24ft long will give lots of square footage for the wife's junk! Foam board insulation question

2500 sqft.. it will take forever to heat it from outside temperature.. I'd recommend either not heat it, or insulate the **** out of it and have a heat source that can keep it at a constant 50. Also, if you don't insulate the pad, it will always feel cold.. it you do insulate the pad it will...

    Foam board insulation question

Agreed.. the foam board alone won't be enough insulation - especially in the ceiling. Vapor barrier goes on the warm side of the wall Also in regards to venting, either gable or Ridge vent with the inlet air coming into the soffit , keep in mind that hot air rises. Shed wrap and insulation - what's necessary?

Insulation is not required in something you are not going to heat or cool... it's a shed! It just needs to be dry, but not air tight so it doesn't hold condensation.. so allow for air to get in ( usually through the doors that don't seal well) and allow air to get out ( small gable vent ) The...

Mechanical skills you wish you had

That comes with time and experience.. I usually grab what I think it is, then 1 smaller and 1 larger. It also helps to identify the hash marks on a bolt head to tell if it's metric or standard. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Questions about my barn build

I've never seen house wrap used on a roof. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Re-engineering my barn

I would do the vapor barrier or house wrap under the roof sheeting just for the reason of being able to take the roof off again.. with spray foam you don't need a vapor barrier, but in this case the insulation may last longer than the steel roofing. Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

    Vapor barrier and roof insulation

You will need to do Batts with scissor trusses.. and the vapor barrier goes on the warm side ( whichever that may be in your climate) Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk

Converting a garage to living space

A house up the street from me is converted.. it is now a sunken living room or den you could say. Where the wide door used to be is now 4 vertical windows, it actually looks really sharp. They also played with the roof line and added a covered porch in front and around the side of the "...

    New Build 1200sqft or less

I'd recommend 2 doors vs. 1 big door if your in a cold climate.. 30x40 would be a nice size with 9x10 doors Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk
