The Northern Tool PASS / FAIL thread

Anyone have this cord reel? I need something hanging from the ceiling for power. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200237924_200237924

    Vintage Kenmore heater Restoration

Reason I asked is that sheet metal (I assume that's what the out side is) can be ruined/warped by incorrectly sand blasting it. Soda Blasting is much gentler and will remove the paint OK but may have a harder time removing any deep rust.

    Vintage Kenmore heater Restoration

Get a CO detector - Seriously, even with a brand spanking new unit everyone should have one if they have a gas heater. Now that I've got that out of the way - Keep us informed with progress pics. Even if you have to replace most of the guts with modern components, it still a cool unit. :drool...

    Cold calls from contractors

Exactly why I have security cameras all around my house. (At least I can go back and see what they took :) ) We have had way to many cold calls this year. Three by the same tree-removal crew in two months. Gives me an uneasy feeling.

You guys ever inspect the inside of your air compressor tanks?

I hear the town water tower tanks are just as nasty as the compressor tanks. My neighbor, who was a member of our local FD, said that they were doing some water tank rescue training and they had a chance to see inside one. He didn't want to drink the city water for a few days after that...

    Truck fell off lift

Sunny Beaches Batman! Maybe the guy refused to pay his bill? Same thing happened to my wife's Aunt & Uncle in Niagara Falls. Shop dumped their full size van off the lift.

Costco Whalen vs. Harbor Freight 44"

dunno... small red flag goes up for me on this one. Their website has no specs as to weight capacities for the drawers, max weight the cabinet will support, etc.

    Wilton Vise

Those are excellent vises. I've got a similar one but not on a swivel mount. Things are damn near indestructible. If you paid $100, pat yourself on the back for a great deal.

    rockwell drill press

I've got a 1950's era Rockwell-Delta 17" Floor Drill Press (I think it's a 17-600). Yes, they are damn heavy. Took 3 of us to get it into the van and 4 of us to get it out. Mine has been in mid-renovation for over a year now. I've got the DP disease - I own 7 DP's so far and 6 are in...

Untrustworthy Folks, Thieves, and the Like...

I was "relieved" of all my cordless tools, air compressor, chain saw, etc from my home garage about a year and a half ago. I had to force myself NOT to look on Craigslist or go to the local Flea Market for a long time. If I did go and see any of my stuff there, I probably would be the one...

    Humidity levels, what is acceptable

We had a guy at the machine shop that was the exact same way. Everything he touched oxidized. For the OP, that's NC fer ya! I finally installed a big-*** window AC unit in my garage. Should have done it sooner. (I'm near Raleigh) As for the proper humidity levels, I can only speak to a...

What is your tool truck balance?

Same here. I also consider it an "education". As long as I can afford to buy stuff & keep food on the table, etc it's a good investment.

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Did you just use it as a high lift jack and raise up one end of the mower with it? I have the 1000lb cart and was wondering if I should get the motorcycle lift or not

I can't believe my Ridig Shop Vac just died!

I use a cheap HF foot switch with mine. (mine is used specifically for cleaning up the drill press and bench belt sander) Just wire over the old switch and put something better in line if your switch has died.

Finally got my Hansen socket trays filled!

Nope, nope. nope - that just won't do. Go out an get a build a set from ONE manufacture. We can't have all those mixed brands lounging around together. What will the neighbors think? :D Seriously - congrats! I'm slowly doing the exact same thing.
