    HF English Wheel

My wife gave me a "Tool IOU" for Christmas. I had no idea what it was for, but yesterday this box shows up on the porch. It's the small HF English wheel. I was skeptical at first, but the anvils, overall frame and adjusting mechanism are pretty well made. If I stiffen up the "C" frame along...

    Vintage KD Alternator Service Kit

I bought this old KD kit from a local GJ member -- I'd date this kit about mid-1960's. These things were quite expensive back in the day.

    Show your Machine Shop!

After "e-tek" pointed out my laziness about not posting pics of my small machine shop in the "Two Car Garage" thread, I'm compelled to start a new thread. :lol_hitti I'm not a machinist, so I don't have pro tools. But I do know enough to make/modify parts for my old cars and to make some...

Amazon Deal on Composite Brass Deadblow

Just saw this 24oz deadblow hammer for $9.95 on amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000W2KIO4/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Given that most are selling for around $25 these days -- this is a good deal.

    How about a tutorial section

Over the last few months I've seen several members post great tutorial threads. Whether it's "Elroy's" Hydraulic jack rebuild, "LoneGunman's" black oxide finishing, or "Bolster's" engine turning write-up; they were all execellent and should reside in a dedicated section that can be easily...

    Refinished Sun Alternator Tester

Finished this up last night. All new hammered paint, new wires in some places, new smaller plywood base plate, and the capacitor on the motor was replaced. The internal light fixture was replaced as well -- meters and sign now light up as they should.

Need help finding a manual --

I refurbished this old Sun model "AT" armature tester a few weeks ago. It works; I tested it out on an old starter armature. Since I collect this junk, I'm trying to find a manual for it. The manual (or a copy) would just complete the project for me. I was hoping that since there are many "old...

HF 3-in-1 Press, Brake and Slip Roll

Does anyone have experience with this 40" capacity machine. I have a small brake, but just don't have the room for a separate shear or slip roll of this size. I really need this capabilty for my current restoration project. It's the best of the three 3-in-1 options that HF sells because it...

Simple tools that work well for you

Lets post some simple tools that really make a big difference in your ability to work efficiently. This is one of those little tools that makes you say "why didn't I think of that". This plug kit is one of the most useful small tools that I have. It's great for plugging vaccum hoses, brake...

    I couldn't help myself!

saw this on CL for a lowball price and just had to go for it. These testers are absolutely essential for any shop that does older restorations. It's still useable on many modern alternators, but my needs are pretty basic. It needs some paint and a good cleaning, but everything electrical works well

    Beautiful Vintage Analyzer!

For those of you that have an interest, this old Marquette analyzer is one of the most sought after models -- ever. The styling speaks to the reason why. If you're within pickup distance, and have an interest in this old "junk", this may be a once in a decade find...

Does anyone still use open-end wrenches?

Back in the late 1960's my first professional MAC mechanic's toolset only included open and box-end wrenches. It was called a "general service set", and by today's standards it would be considered an "apprentice set" at best. However, I don't see many pro sets with open-end wrenches anymore. I...

    Sun LV Automotive Circuit Tester

This is a unique piece of automotive test equipment. It's basically a Sun VAT, with a massive load bank, as well as complete low voltage circuit testing capability. It was sold commercially and to the military. This one is a military version, and by the looks of it, has never been used. The...

    Old Carb Tools

I got these as a $10.00 "buy it now" on ebay. Someone obviously didn't know what they were selling. It's a lot of old Burroughs carburetor adjustment tools -- and miscellaneous add ons.

    Sun Armature Tester

I bought this tired old Sun model AT armature tester on ebay. The first pic shows how I received it. Full of dirt, grease and mouse ****. When I took it apart, all it really needed was some new wires and a power cord. It also needed a slight repaint of the armature tray area that was corroded...

ebay - Distributor Tester and scope in NC

Not associated with this auction; just passing it along in case someone has a similar interest in old Sun equipment. This seems like a good deal for anyone interested in vintage diagnostic equipment. The collector item Snap-on "****-O-Scope" (no kidding, that's the name) alone is worth over...

Please show me your beer keg installations

Some of you have gone the extra mile in your shop and installed a beer station with tap and keg. I'm looking for some ideas -- what's the best way to do this? Buy a "kegerator", or make your own from an old fridge? How long does keg beer stay fresh? A friend's wife wants to get him such a...

    New HF English Wheel

What the he!! is going on? :headscrat Look a this new E-wheel. I'm thinking there has been a total shake-up at HF. They are actually starting to sell viable tools at reasonable prices. This E-wheel is a "big" improvement over their other offerings...

Harbor Freight hits the "big time"

I think HF is really pushing the pro market with this toolbox. Anyone seen this "land yacht" in person? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=66257
