My new home away from home

Before I show my most recent work I have to say I AM NOT A WOOD WORKER. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way my most recent project has been fixing/upgrading my table saw. This was something I originally picked up used a few years ago, that has been dragged to at least 6 different homes...

    metric midlegth socket set

I bought the Snap on 1/4 drive metric set because it was on "sale" at the time. When I needed a 3/8 drive socket I grabbed a craftsman and chucked it in the lathe. That deep broaching comes in handy for something. Eventually I grab a whole set of deeps on sale for $20 and make myself a whole...

    Honda crank pulley bolt

I've used this trick many times, however in this case it is terrible advice. The Honda in question has a right hand threaded bolt, the engine on the other hand spins counter clock wise. Using this trick on a Honda with a B, D F, H (or possibly others that I am forgetting) engine code will...

new snap on krl need opinions

I like my blue 722 a lot, but I think white will be my next purchase. For those saying go red for re-sale, I don't buy into it. I hate red boxes. Maybe its because my first recycled soda can of a Craftsman box was red, or maybe its the wall-o-harbor boxes that I've been too lazy to repaint...

    peg or box

for me the downside to peg board is: DIRTY tools. If you do any amount of wood work, or fabrication, they are going to get dirty. Stability. If you do get them dirty you better make sure they are up there well before you blow them off with compressed air. Some tools this isn't an issue...

    Who's got lathes?

Couldn't you just make a new handle? It is a LATHE after all :lol_hitti

    Custom two tone box.

The only obvious solution for the inside of the box is to upholster it to match the car! Looks good, and makes me feel like a slacker for having a faded green box in my silver truck.

Tool Chest as Bench support? Reorganizing workspace.

and for the record snap on shows the weight of that box at 550 lbs. Not sure what apartments you live in, but I could see that being a deal breaker. If you do get it though we are going to need video of it going up the stairs to its new home!

My new home away from home

Luckily the neighbors at the shop don't take much interest in me at all. Thanks, It is getting there. I'll be more excited to start working on stuff in it more than on it. Even when I'm being lazy my stuff still gets used for maintenance at least, but a lot of the "equipment" stuff is left...

Does anyone rent a shop for just hobbying?

Where are you located? I've thought about walking but even our business is split between office and shop, so I need to be able to drive for that as well as occasionally running down to my shop to make some parts, grab tools that I don't normally need at the shop, or just go out to get supplies.

Does anyone rent a shop for just hobbying?

I was lucky when I lived down south, and only had a 13 mile drive to work. The g/f got stuck with the 55 mile drive every morning and every night. Here she is down to around 13 miles and I have a whole 0.4 mile drive to work :lol_hitti The commute was the other big factor for us. We could...

Does anyone rent a shop for just hobbying?

You just have to remember everyone is in different situations. I would love to have a place like yours, but my job doesn't exist in a lot of places, so I'm stuck where I'm at. You could pay a lot for a house here and still have no space, but why rent a house when you don't need 3 extra...

Buying collections is getting harder than ever.

I will say a lot of the original posters problems are I moved up to the bay area! ha ha I've found a few GOOD deals, and a few fair deals. There are a lot of collections that would be okay if you really needed all of it, but they just aren't amazing deals by any means. Guess it depends if...

Automotive work in a 10x25 Storage Unit

Our places threw fits about me even wanting to temporarily store cars in them. and absolutely no working on the cars in them. I know Nebraska was a different story, people were running "businesses" out of storage units there.

Does anyone rent a shop for just hobbying?

I just made the switch to this set up. We moved out of our three car garage rental house in Southern Cal, and moved up to San Jose. When I saw the price of rental houses it was a no brainer, now we have a studio apartment and 3 min from here is my 1200 square ft shop. The shop is cheaper than...

    finished my welder cart

Like the cart. As far as cooling concerns, can the side door be removed once its unlocked? Seems like the hinge can just be slid off the pin once its open all the way. My only advice would be to look into a bigger bottle, I always felt like i was exchanging those. Once I got one large...

Who wants to play WTF is this?

Yeah after wreckercologist said that it was kind of a duh moment. You would probably be amazed and what Craftsman once "made".

a little of this and a little of that sockets, wrenches, boxes, screwdrivers

As far as I remember they are still up for grabs, I'll PM you back shortly The Proto are pending payment, and I believe someone else beat you to the snap on, but let me double check. They would have to go in at least a medium flat rate box $11.50 (i've actually added more since the photo) I...
