    Let's See Your Garage Dog

Morgan My good friend Sundance died suddenly at just five years. It has been three months, but we are still heartbroken. He was such a wonderful, affectionate Rottweiler. We know he would have wanted us to continue to care for Rotties, so a new addition joined us the other week. Her name is...

    Disintegrating Tool Cabinet Casters

Replace all? I wonder now whether I should replace the casters on the other cabinets. They are 2" wide wheels, wider than the 1-3/4 wheels that fell apart, and look all right upon inspection. They may have a life, too. The polyurethane wheels look quite good though, so replacing all is...

Replacement Casters I searched the Web and found a source for caster sets for toolboxes—Caster Specialists. I ordered a “Premium Line” 2”/5” caster set in “non-marking polyurethane tread on a polypropylene plastic hub." 3,000 lbs capacity, which is a per wheel rating, I think. The casters...

I have a Snap-On roll cabinet as well, Lassen Forge, and there doesn't seem much difference in quality between it and the Proto cabinets. Disintegrating wheels may be a Snap-On feature as well. Andy

    Disintegrating Tool Cabinet Casters

Proto The casters (1-3/4" by 5") that broke apart are the original ones that came with the Proto cabinets. The 2" by 5" rubber wheels on the other Proto cabinets I have, about 14 years old now, seem to be OK. I hope they don't start to disintegrate as well. Andy

    Disintegrating Tool Cabinet Casters

Thanks, Jim. I searched the Web and found a source for caster sets for toolboxes—Caster Specialists.” They have the attachment plate size to suit Proto, which is probably standard with Snap-on and the others. I had not seen the page you pointed out. They have very interesting casters! Andy

    Disintegrating Tool Cabinet Casters

Biodegradable Material Yes, I did not expect that as well, Marc. The material just seems to have broken apart on its own. The environment is not a harsh one, and in fact the humidity is controlled and the temperature not hot. The cabinets are not near electric motors. I thought it would...

    Disintegrating Tool Cabinet Casters

Prematurely Biodegradable The caster wheels are rubber, 1-3/4“ wide and 5“ tall. They seem formulated so as to biodegrade, but do so far too quickly, as some plastics, rubber, and vinyl products on rubber shoes, cars, and other things. The cabinets are probably 15 years old, but, still, it’s...

    Disintegrating Tool Cabinet Casters

We noticed several weeks ago that the casters, specifically the rubber wheels, on the Proto roll cabinets we use for shop supplies had begun to disintegrate. One in fact had fallen apart completely. This was of course a precarious condition, as the cabinet might tip over.

Boxes Many thanks, Chris. We do have torrential rains here – water sometimes rises above the pavers - and very hot summers. We don't have winter though, and the temperatures range just from 19C early in the year to 35. I'm going through a second weeding of boxes and went through a few just...

300sl I wish I could say the 300SL were mine, Ody, but it isn’t. It belongs to an old friend who has owned it since the late 1960s. It has been repainted, but is unrestored. A lovely car, and it is always a treat when it visits. As I related before, in the later 1980s, another friend of mine...

Grass Pavers There were few grass paver designs available here, Audicon, so it was an easy choice for me. Initially, the pattern was evident through the grass, but eventually grass has taken so well that the pavers can’t be seen, as shown in the two hoots below. The pavers do show where cars...

Grass Driveway Many thanks, Pig-in-a-Poke, FunBags, Audicon. I think the things just seem in good taste because there are so few of them. The house and garage are quite bare! The switch to grass pavers for the driveway has been a good decision in this tropical island. They seem to have...

Bruno Mathsson's Jeson 66 Thank you, RG500NOR. I'm sorry I missed your post and didn't reply right away. It's nice of you to say that. I did not know of Bruno Mathsson's Jeson 66 chair and had to Google it. Yes, you are right. It reminds of the seats in the early 1970s supercars. It is...

    Modern Garage in Far East

Many thanks, Denwood. It's an amazing chair; young friends can't believe it was designed 90 years ago. Thanks, too, Roger. The garage seems to be holding up well and serving its purpose. It's a constant battle - decluttering. We have a 2nd garage, used for the commuter cars. That needs...

The Corbu Lounge Some Trivia. While the lounge is of course attributed to Le Corbusier, it is believed his assistant Charlotte Perriand, played a major role in its design. She also posed for this famous photo, considered quite daring in 1928. That's Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier.

The Timelessness of Good Design Fiddling with a car in the garage the other night, I saw the lounge and, although I have had it almost 20 years, was struck by how beautiful—and modern—it looked. I had to take a photo. Yet the lounge, by the architect Le Corbusier, was designed in 1928.
