    Heating Requirement Calculation

Let us know how it works when winter hits. I’ve got a 36x48x14 shop I’m looking to put a gas unit heater in and I’m debating on going with the 80k I already have or buying a 100k for a faster recovery.

Best wire for under a vehicle?

I try to use XLPE insulated wire instead of the old school PVC wire. It’s better in high heat and chemicals. https://www.waytekwire.com/products/1454/Automotive-Cross-Link-Wire/

Make your own NEC steel protection plate?

You can go above the inspector to the state board. If it is in the code they can and will over rule the inspector. But, you won’t make any friends that way.

Make your own NEC steel protection plate?

300.4 doesn’t say anything about “listed” though. It says “1/16” steel plate”. In fact 300.4 (D) exception no. 3 says that a plate is allowed to be thinner than 1/16” if it is “listed and marked”.

Make your own NEC steel protection plate?

Can you make your own 1/16” steel protection plate to satisfy section 300.4? I’ve seen a ton of those hammer on steel protection plates installed when you can’t maintain 1 1/4” of wood framing member but not any custom ones. The reason I ask is that there is an area where I want to run my cable...

Is it me or is this a bit misleading?

If im reading you right the answer is no. Basically if you have a 100 amp 240v breaker feeding a panel then you have two opposing legs of 120v at 100 amps each. You get 24,000 watts total whether it’s at 240v or 120v. It’s one 240v 60hz wave form coming into your house. The breakers are either...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Sorry it took so long Platonic. I have attached a photo of the dungeon I am working in. Upon closer inspection I found that removal of the existing lights won’t leave to horrible of a mess from the original mounting hardware. I just want the most light per dollar I can get since it is horribly...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

I’m assuming the wattage listed from these lights is the total draw of the fixture. When replacing an 8 foot 2 bulb T12HO fixture I should have over 220 watts available if I do a 1 for one swap. Do you see a reason not to bump up to a 165 watt LED fixture like this one? I am thinking more light...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

How would I go about mounting the high bay lights you link above directly to a Sheetrock ceiling 16 feet up? I am looking for a bracket to allow flush mounting without the chains but haven’t seen one yet. These will replace 8 foot two bulb t12HO fixtures currently in place screwed up to the...

I’ve never seen USE-2 that wasn’t rated RHH and RHW-2 as well. Maybe back in the day it was a thing? https://www.southwire.com/products/RHHRHWUSEOEM.htm

Replacing 8 foot T12HO bulbs with LED retrofit?

Do you have any info on the 4x4’ conversion stuff you mentioned above? It would be helpful to know what you’ve had good luck with.

Replacing 8 foot T12HO bulbs with LED retrofit?

Do you have any experience with the particular lights? I don’t want to buy junk for my work because I’ll get the blame if they are problematic.

Replacing 8 foot T12HO bulbs with LED retrofit?

I have T12HO lighting in a warehouse at work that are starting to reach the end of their life. We have put in a few ballasts over the last year to keep limping along but I want to do a direct wire LED conversion on them. The goal is to not lose any illumination as it’s a dungeon already and to...

    220v Plug Question

That would be awesome. I have questions about derating of circuits for continuous duty and multi wire branch circuits for lighting.

common trip bar on 110 breakers

Ok, that makes sense. The neutral can only ever see 1/2 of the combined amperage due to the phasing.

common trip bar on 110 breakers

Multi wire branch circuits are strange. Maybe I’m wrong but it always seemed to me that the neutral would be carrying twice the amps of each of the hot wires? Like if there was a 20 amp draw on each breaker the neutral would be returning 40 amps.

Where to get good quality brass pipe and fittings for natural gas?

If you are worried about corrosion just wrap the lines in Denso tape. I guarantee that your pipes won’t corrode even a drop if Denso tape is correctly applied to them. They use the stuff on ocean going ships and large gas pipelines to prevent corrosion. http://densona.com
