what's the minimum wire height from the pole to the meter?

From what I remember from the NESC code at the utility I worked, is 15' if there could be heavy truck traffic and 12' min over grass/yard. They should not charge you to get it up to code. You can see if TX or your area has a utilities board to file a complaint with? Good luck!

Air Gun attachment. Coolest way you use this tool?

Been there done that! Also try the air gun in your shoe/boot! You can also use the air pressure to separate 5 gallon pails that are stuck together.

Mechanics: Tips and tricks you've learned

I heard this years ago and still use it to this day. If you have brake rotor/drum that is rusted on, squirt a little penetrating oil at the junction and then use a big hammer(steel) to break the rust free. But don't hit it the way your brain tells you, try to drive it back onto the hub. If...

    Attic framing upgrade?

Sorry for the delay guys, I will get some pics and more accurate dimensions this weekend. Rest assured whatever I do to upgrade will be better than the current setup and I will not use the space for something it will not support. I try to overbuild when I can. The house was built in the mid...

    Attic framing upgrade?

I am working on upgrading the framing to make the attic space above my garage into usable space. The original plan was to just do enough to allow for light duty storage, but now I figure if I go through the work/expense I may as well build it strong enough for living/work space in the future...

I may never use teflon tape again

About 20 years ago, the Permatex rep told us that Teflon tape was never meant to seal a joint and that you should use a pipe dope for that purpose. Never had the chance to confirm this info with a different expert. I know I've had a few leaks with tape, but was able to make it work. None of...

Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT From losing everything to being cash-poor and shop-rich in "only" five years!

Its a long shot, but maybe check into taking a tool & die class at a local tech school? Maybe this could be a cheap way get access to software. I vaguely remember hearing about "student versions" for cheap, but that was 20 years ago and a different life.

Let's see your Billings and Spencer goodies

I picked up a Billings & Spencer adjustable wrench with the adjustment screw. Unfortunately, it has been abused and cracked. With a little persuasion, I was able to disassemble, lube, and get it to move, but it will never be used for work again. It will get hung on the wall and become a...

    fluid film ya or ney?

I also like the older threads, I think it gives background and maybe a little credibility. Denwood, thanks for all the info, I will be looking for Noxudol this fall before rust season starts! Six months ago, I tried a oil undercoating for the first time and settled on a "local" option, NH Oil...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Garage Refurb®

My old man told me that vinyl siding is not waterproof, so you need Tyvek to provide that part of the system. Not sure if its true, but makes sense to me, especially in the corners where the layers just overlap.

Maybe the Tyvek didn't cover that portion?

    HF Braun Slim LED Worklight

I bought this HF light a few months ago and the instructions mentioned to not leave it charging. I believe it said 3 hours max, but I could be wrong on the duration. So far I am very happy with it

Above 1200 Sq/FT Mountain State Shop Build

Nice place, we passed thru the area over Christmas. Sorry, but I do have a small correction, its not a guide wire, its a guy wire. The power company can do whatever they want, but if I was them, I would install a new anchor about 5' off the pole with a new guy. The sidewalk guy usually...

My garage was butchered. Fix it or leave it alone?

Fix it! Move your 2x6's up a foot(?) and tie into the roof like they should have done in the first place.

Garage Opener Receiver Weaker With Age?

I "third" racecougar's note on LED lights. I had similar thing happen when I replaced the light bulbs on my craftman garage door opener. I used cheap LED's and they caused some sort of interference.

Above 1200 Sq/FT How to Build a Garage in 10,000 Easy Steps

I was gifted some old 18V Dewalt tools, so I picked up one of those adapters and now I can use my 20v batteries on the free tools. Works pretty slick. But I get it, I would like to replace my 1/2" pneumatic impact with one of the new battery powered ones, but its hard to justify when the...
