Dead ash tree firewood; safe to store inside??? Trees killed by Emerald Ash Borers

I think you're thinking of Beech Bark Scale Disease. This is not how EAB works. The beetles do not act as a vector. The larvae simply eat and girdle the tree.

Pole barn or stick built? Foundation walls and slab already poured

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Appreciate it. Interesting. I never consider that my barn was a post and beam, but I see what you are saying. And I didn't consider that the poles and Perma-columns act functionally like the poles are in the ground. The only thing attaching the posts to...

Pole barn or stick built? Foundation walls and slab already poured

Honest question for everybody saying the OP is locked into stick built because the poles can't be embedded. I teach a timber frame class and have built about 25 timber frames in the past decade. As long as a pole barn is braced adequately, can't the poles just be set on the foundation with...

Yeah, exactly. I was up to 7 beer cans on just the first day. Got about 3 more cans on day 2 before it ended.

Moved to New Hampshire, got me an attached 2 car heated garage!! Need some snow/lawn tools and counseling

Aint that the truth. I hit the backcountry during or after storms and by the time I get home the last thing I want to do it go back out and plow for an hour. It sure would be nice to arrive back home to a nicely plowed driveway.

Moved to New Hampshire, got me an attached 2 car heated garage!! Need some snow/lawn tools and counseling

Good advice from people who actually live in NH and/or the surrounding environs....as I don't think many people would consider NH "actually quite warm" in the winter. There certainly were no "leaves on trees" in 99% of NH 2 weeks ago. The OP's driveway is between 30 and 50 yards...that's only...

Prevent rot in 4X4 Post sitting in Plastic sleeve it System

Got to have oxygen as well. Often a 4x4 PT post will rot at ground level where there are all 3...moisture, wood, and oxygen. But that same post 4 feet down is still perfectly fine.

    Looking at a Rotary Lift

Agreed. I routinely see used Rotary lifts in that size on Marketplace for around $1200 to $1500 depending on condition. Price seems high to me as well. Maybe if it comes with all kinds of adapters and pads...OK. For a standard used lift, $2800 is high.

How to store 2 kayaks flush with garage ceiling

I remove the top to my K5 Blazer with a home made rope and pulley system and a $100 electric winch from HF. The top weighs just over 200 lbs. I don't need it to touch the ceiling, but it could if I chose. Something like this would work for your kayaks. You'd have to custom design it for your...

    What's with exterior colors?

It's called the "modern farmhouse." The trend has been hot for about 10 years now...whitewashed houses with black windows, front porches with large rustic beams, lots of gables on the home, white cabinets in the kitchen, and interior barn style doors. Just read a NY Times article about it a few...

Need some input on pole barn quote to make sure everything is good to go, if you have a minute

If he's using piers with those post bases I would suggest just using Perma-Columns. Then just brace the **** out of the building. That's what I did....I live on a very windy 2,000 plateau in the Northeast and have never had a problem. Not a big fan of tying the piers to the pad. But...

In a pole barn all the weight of the building is on the poles.

    Scrap habits

I always keep a small stockpile of scrap KD and PT 2x material and 1x pine boards. Besides that, no...I keep nothing. KD Cut-offs get cut to length and split and thrown in the kindling box. Eveything else goes in the yearly burn pile out in the back 40.
