Painting around a gas heater (like the Hot Dawg or Big Maxx)

Thanks, but I'm more concerned with damaging the heater. The chances of the place exploding from an open gallon of mineral spirits is minimal.

Painting around a gas heater (like the Hot Dawg or Big Maxx)

When the guys brought my propane tank for the garage, the old timer that brought it was checking out my garage and made the comment to be sure to shut off the heater if I was ever doing a lot of painting. Something about the fumes messing up one of the sensors. Anyone ever had an issue with...

Floor coating for an abused garage - no flake

My garage is also "used and abused". I put down Ghostshield and while I think it has helped with a lot of stains and such, after only 6 months or so, it is far from clean looking. Ghostshield isn't cheap, and it won't protect from everything, so you will have to decide if a little protection...

    Steel ceiling question

I did 16' panels in my 30x48 (running the 48' direction). Not sure I'd want to wrestle ones much longer. I was told 3 or 4 inch overlap was sufficient.

Can the city decide they're going to take over a private dirt road?

Like was mentioned, check with the tax office to see if they have a plat (map) of the properties. I'd bet that there has been a paper street there and the municipality has owned the ally all along. As for the cost, any of my involvement (when I worked for a City), any opening had to be agreed...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Busy day/week in the garage. This past week i played bodyman and put a fender well patch on the Dodge. Made an exhaust fan out of a furnace blower. Then today i changed the oil and thermostat in the wifes car. Then when i was done with that i made a makeshift paint booth. Time to sit back...

    Where to get lights?

Best price I found on comparable lights was here... https://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/default.asp Warning....they took a while to get the lights, and their communication sucked, but I like the lights and the price was good.

    Garage mod quote sanity check

I must be missing something. How are they going to raise the ceiling without raising the roof? Is the current ceiling not hanging on the trusses?

Custom Making Socket Holders - Help sourcing the magnetic sheets?

You are correct. The sheet magnet stuff doesn't work. I bought some cheap magnetic socket holders that had the same stuff and they were a waste of money. Please post your finished product...I'd be interested in the magnets you use and how they work.

I did 16' panels with 3 guys (no lift) and wouldn't want to handle much larger.

    Hoist Mounting Suggestions

I used unistrut as well. I was a little uneasy just screwing the unistrut to the trusses (even with the small #440 hoist), so I laid a 2x4 on top of the trusses and put a carriage bolt thru the unistrut and the 2x4 with a nut and washer. The 2x4 is extended 4' past the end of the unistrut, so...
