opinions on this welding helmet please

I have used a flip shield all my life, over 40 years and i was very afraid to try an auto darkening shield. My daughter gave me one from Harbor Freight it took me a while to even take it out the box. When I finally did try it, it was great. I am always working by myself and it works great when...

Best air compressor for home shop

The HF compressor is really spinning, 1368 is fast for an air compressor. I would look for a 2 stage, cast iron pump with an 80 gallon tank. I do the same things you are planning on doing. I have an Atlas 2 stage V twin compressor, 5 HP 220 volt motor with an 80 gallon tank, check valve in the...

Who make a good quaility tap and die set for home use

Dennis, YES I DO KNOW HOW TO USE A TAP AND DIE SET. I restore hit and miss engines and tractors. I usually don't restore anything unless it is at least 1930 or older. Most of the time I have to make my own parts because there are no parts available. I have a lathe and mill and know how to...

How often do you change the oil in your compressor

I use my compressor 4 or 5 times a month, bead blasting, air up tires. I used to change the oil once a year. I have now switched over to AMSOL for 4 years, the oil is clear and easy to see a color change. I have about 100 hours on AMSOL and oil looks great. I try and drain my 80 gallon tank at...

    A/C and heating unit pricing

OK, I have been away for several days. The unit is a 2 speed compressor and a variable speed inside fan motor. I need to find out about the humidity control. Down south, most the time in July, August, and September it will be 90% humidity with temps in the 95-100F outside. I am still looking...

    A/C and heating unit pricing

If they use the old liguid/suction tubing, it will be cleaned and flushed. The warrant is a 10 year from Bryant, a 1 year Ultimate Test Drive (if you are not satisfied, they will remove and install something else), and a 5 year labor to repair any issues. New plenum chamber, therostat, and I...

    foot powered metal lathe?

Our club had a foot/hand crank powered table saw, with a big heavy cast iron flywheel. Patton date was 1878. Once you got it up to speed and kept it there, you could do just about anything you can do with an electric table saw today. If you were cross cutting small stock, you could peddle it...

Need help ID-ing this Cylinder, old flat head possibley a Motorcycle

Gravely L8, best tractor you could buy, many attachments. That cylinder is at least 45 years old and will probably go on another tractor and last another 45 years. Glad it went to another collector/restorer. BUD

Yellow gas tubing for shop AIR

Schedule 40 PVC in the shop, several drops, for over 34 years. My 5 HP compressor is set at 175PSI into the shop with 1/2" copper tubing with Swedgelock fittings to a filter/regulator set at 100 PSI to the header with all the drops. The drops ends have a galvanized 90's that are strapped to the...

    Air compressor

Agree with bochnak, it is a Puma compressor. Looking at the pictures, the motor pulley is really big, almost as big as the compressor pulley, which means the pump will be turning fast. They tell you the motor RPM, but not the compressor RPM. It does have a lot of bells and whistles. BUD

Saved this from the dumpster today

Good save. Kellog is a good compressor, head valves are rebuildable, slingger ring lubrication, good cast iron crankcase and cylinders. I have rebuilt a couple of these units many years ago. Be sure you match the RPM on the motor you get with the 3 phase that is on the compressor now. BUD

What's the consensus on Kobalt tools?

I have had my Craftsmans 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive set for 40 years and can't beat them. Their screw drivers were junk 40 years ago and are still junk today. I also have HF impact sockets in 3/8" and 1/2" drive that I bought about 30 years ago, no problem. Older tool sets in good condition are...

How do you leave a crescent wrench?

I generally don't use a Cresent wrench or adjustable wrench. I have had them slip to many times causing busted knuckles. I have a complete set from 4" to (I think it is a 14") 14" hanging on my wall, all are chrome, and from many different companies. I also have sets of combination wrenches on...
