Will concrete trucks destroy asphalt driveway?

Other than the delivery of the concrete, is this a DIY project? Are you placing and finishing the concrete yourself? If a contractor is doing the work, explain your concerns to him and ask for his solutions and recommendations. He's the pro and has probably dealt with this problem any number...

Minimum thickness for small concrete pad

Unless there is a particular reason not too, I'd over-build a little. Using 2x4s for framing, you're talking ten 80lb bags of 'crete with a little left over. A thicker pad gives you a little extra margin of strength. Just a thought. Jim

Buy or Build a sturdy workbench/ammo reloading bench?

I'll call myself a duffer when it comes to woodworking so I look at projects like this as "skill building" projects. You don't have to be Norm Abrams to build a workbench. All it really has to be is fuctional and safe. Yeah, you want it to look nice, but that's where the skill building aspect...

Expanding my attached garage. Where to start?

Hence my post about starting by researching the covenants and restrictions. Unless what you propose is allowed or you can figure out a work-around, there's no point going any further. I suppose you could appeal the board's "no" decision if that's what it ends up being. Then you face the...

Expanding my attached garage. Where to start?

I would first research the covenants and restrictions myself prior to going before the HOA board or the architectural committee. You need to know the rules/restrictions/guidlines at least as well, if not better than they do. Has anyone else in your neighborhood done anything similar to what...

Fuel Stabilizer ? Yes or No ?

I run stabilized (Stabil) fuel all the time, not just at the end of the season. ZT mower and Goldwing I store with a full tank. Been doing it that way for 20+ years with no problems either because of or in spite of what I do. All run with E10 fuel. Same with the small mower and pressure...

    Power Washing Floor with Drywall

Do you have J channel on the bottom edge? If not, do you have room to add it? J channel will help protect it, especially if it's the raw edge. Won't make it waterproof but will help to make the edge water resistant and to help prevent damage and crumbling. Just some added insurance. Jim

Looking for feedback on first "true" box - The great debate between HF, HD, ET, SO, and more!

A little dated, but the thread below may give you some ideas. Me? I had a HF 44" top & bottom for many years. When I moved I gave it to my son and purchased the 56" top & bottom. I'm just a DIYer...

Contractor broke water line... who's liable?

This....First thing is to look at the contract. There is probably a section or paragraph starting with "Not responsible for" or other exclusions. With that said, not all liabilities can be waived or excluded so checking state law may be in order. Or maybe work a deal if possible with the...

    Garage with no exit door

I had a similar situation in my previous house. It was a duplex that was connected at the carports. My carport was a single car unit. The design of of the house didn't allow for a door from the carport to the house and I didn't want to lose the wall space a door would take on the back wall...

Product Reviews -Cleaning Rusty Tools ?

I use plain white vinegar on a couple of adjustable wrenches I inherated from my father. They were so rusty, they were headed for the scrap bin.. I let them soak for a couple of days, rinsed them off and oiled them up. They work perfectly. They look and work much better than I expected. Jim

Builders / framers ignoring foundation bolts

If the ties are not required by code or called out in the contract, a simple change order to the contract may be in order if you want them to do it. Expect to pay a little extra though. The loose/missing hardware indicates to me there may be an issue of sloppy workmanship. Do you see signs of...

    motion sensor light switch

Here's a quick read article if you haven't seen it already. I've installed two of the Lutron Maestro switches; one in the garage and one in the mud/laundry room. Easy install and easy to program. I've had them for over a year with no issues. Both are controlling fluorescent fixtures but I...

Neighbor’s sump pump creating swamp in my yard

*I do believe a little sarcasm was involved, at least that's how I took it.* Contacting the AHJ is part of the OP's due diligence to learn the rules/regulations of controlling discharge and run-off. He would be fooish not to, in my opinion. My suggestion is to confirm the source of the water...

Neighbor’s sump pump creating swamp in my yard

Check with your state/county AHJ. If it is truely the discharge from her sump pump, she may be required, at her expense, to redirect the water so that it does not run on to your property. Good luck. Jim

    Best Way to Remove Drywall

I'm in this camp. Did the PO mud the screws? If he did that will slow the process way down. Did the PO use glue and screws to hang the rock? if you're unsure, knock out one small section and check. If he glued, removing the screws first is pretty much a waste of time in my opinion. Note that...

Anybody selling or renting out Rapid Air Maxline straighteners?

This might be helpful. The "meat" starts at 2:15. I know you said you're working with 3/4" and in the video he's working with 1/2". Might be worth taking a 6" piece to Home Depot to see what you can find. Jim
