    Toolbox Lables

That's really neat. I've been wanting to do something similar for a long time. I especially like that they are printed on a magnetic strip so you can move them around. How did she do it? Can you share? Thanks for posting. Jim

    Just curious "SAE or "American"

I usually use the term, fractional as it's more descriptive, especially when talking to others. Many times when I hear/see the term British, I think Whitworth. Tighten it until it strips, then add a quarter turn.... Jim

    Non-skid for stairs?

I used this on an outdoor application that gets exposed to rain and snow. I made sure the wood treads were reasonably clean, I pressure washed them I think, then cut to length. They've been down for at least 5 years with no sign of lifting...

    Take on reel push mower

My experience with reel push mowers is that you really have to stay on top of cutting. I would cut at least twice a week. If the grass gets too long, it becomes a real bear. Jim

buy and program spare garage door opener?

I use both the remotes mentioned by mmb617 and rvieceli above. Yes, I had a couple of unintentional openings due to keeping the keys in my pocket. What I do now is when I get home, I take my cap off and put the contents of my pockets, wallet, keys, knife, etc. in it. That gets the key fob...

    Looking for a flagpole

Bought my 20ft telescoping aluminum pole here http://www.uncommonflagpoles.com/ortefl20fosi.html about 15 years ago. Not a bit of trouble with it. God bless America and all the good things she stands for. Jim

    Original restoration or customize?

For what it's worth, my general rule is that if it has any family or sentimental historical value, I take steps to prevent any further deterioration. For example, if it was a box that once belonged to my dad, every dent, every scratch has a story. I would give it a careful cleaning then lube...

    How to patch drywall

Sounds like you're new to drywall patching...In addition to the above tips, add this one. When you're sanding out any imperfections and feathering the edges, feel the area with your fingers. If you can feel the edges, no matter how slight, you'll see them when painted. Jim

    Garage Shelf Oil Containment ?

I have metal cabinets though not fire rated and use shelf liners cut from cardboard boxes. Always figured if there were any signs of a chemical or oil leak, I'd change out the liner and toss the leaker. Since I'll be out today running errands, I'll be on the lookout for some aluminum trays...

I'm trying to stuff 10#'s of sh!@ in a five # bag and need some help!!

Man, you can't sneeze without moving something first! In addition to the above, avoid renting a storage bin. Too many times, I've seen these temporary storage solutions become permanent. Before long you've spent enough in rent to build your garagemahal. Trying to assemble the perfect...

    Selecting a drywall mud

As you see, the opinions run the gamut. A good place to learn taping and finishing skills is in the garage. A mud tray, some knives, and a pole sander along with some tape and mud will get you started. You should be able to acquire all the tools and supplies for well under $100. Watch a few...

    Raising my tool chest 10"

Maybe build something up using PVC https://www.homedepot.com/p/Veranda-HP-1-2-in-x-12-in-x-8-ft-Reversible-Cellular-PVC-Fascia-H120WWS2/203733425 Use PVC solvent to build it up to the thickness you want then saw it down to the dimensions you need. If you can work with wood, you can work with...

En-Suite Office... Or adding office space to your smaller-ish shop

Use tape to lay out your proposed dimensions on the shop floor, put your office in it and see how it works for you. Try to live with it for awhile then adjust as necessary. If you're going to put up walls and a door, consider a pocket door to save the swing space. Be careful about hanging...

Has anyone else made the mistake of moving into their garage before finishing?

Given the season, you're probably in the planning stage. Be ready to execute as soon as the weather breaks in the Spring. If you've been in the garage more than a month, you've already accumulated stuff you'll never use or need. Stop now and start cleaning out stuff. Be ruthless and be...

En-Suite Office... Or adding office space to your smaller-ish shop

Tough one. Without partition walls, I'd be concerned about dust/dirt and mission creep; office stuff creeping out or shop stuff creeping in. Time to put some thought into figuring out what's more important, shop space, office space vs sharing office space. If it's a must do, mobilize stuff as...

    HF or Craftsman tool chest?

Meant to add - I have a 42" HF purchased new about 10 years ago. Added the top chest about a year later. I've had zero issues with it. Only modification I've made is to it is to mount swivel castors to all four corners with the locking ones under the drawer face side. Makes it easier to move...
