jessemac, Hmmm, let's see, basketball, soccer, floor hockey, and a party/reception hall have all been suggested!! Stay tuned because good weather is just around the corner and I'll be able to bring the cars home and fill up the barn. That will be fun. I have a planned spot for each car. Is...

Hey MartyO, Any photos of your build anywhere? How do you like the climate change from NY? CZ

Thanks guys. If I leave out any details, I will do my best to answer any questions. I'm a DIY'er and it was tough for me to sit on the sidelines while this was going up. However, the builder was great, he answered all of my questions and didn't have an attitude towards "the stupid homeowner."...

11/14/2010 Here we go with steel siding. Again, less labor and material costs compared to vinyl siding. I would have liked to incorporate some brick in the front and under the patio but it wasn't in the budget. My wife and I went round and round on the color. We're still having second...

11/12 - 11/13/2010. It took two days to put the metal on the roof. The builder ordered the steel cut to length to speed the process and since it only took two days to complete the roof, I'd say it worked. Why a steel roof? A shingled roof takes longer to install and the materials and labor...

Thanks guys. It was fun coming home and walking around the house to see the latest progress. I have a neighbor who volunteers at the voter site on election day. When I got there, she asked me if I had moved because "someone was putting up a big barn" After a chuckle, I told her no and I was...

Hey justanoldguy, I don't have any plans but I will gather together what I have. If you get close to building and haven't seen anything, PM me. CZ

Thanks Breeze, I sized it to the budget I had and went from there. But you're right, an extra 10' or 20' in length would have been nice. This will have to do. A bigger space would have allowed me to add more cars and I need to focus on what I have now! CZ

JC23, If I was smart I would have just had the builder finish the upstairs but I wanted to insulate the walls upstairs before finishing the top half of the wall with the OSB. The building code requires 1/2 of the wall installed upstairs so that you can't fall. I guess I'll be lugging 20 sheets...

11/8 and 11/9/2010. Here comes the concrete, all 80 yards of it. The concrete was the part of the build that I was fretting the most. The ground at my place gets rock hard throughout the summer. In the fall, we didn't have our usual rainfall and the ground where the delivery trucks were...

Hey e-tek, yes, yes I am wasting a lot of wood! I considered a steel truss and post build but decided against it because 1) they needed a long lead time to custom fab to my dimensions and 2) I wanted to keep my money local. The builder lives 45 minutes from me and has three employees. I...

Thanks Obnxious. More photos coming! I should have built this barn years ago but comparing the cost of the old barn to the new one is a factor of 5! Thanks CZ. The exterior and roof are steel. Stay tuned for the installation. CZ

Hey Bib, they used 3 complete bundles of 1/2" OSB for the roof and upstairs walls and another full bundle and a little more of 3/4" for the upstairs floor. I've only seen more OSB at the store! I plan to finish the upstairs walls with OSB since the first 4' has OSB. When I finish the...

Thanks Nasman. When I built my 40'x64' barn, I had tons of help, rented a large fork lift to handle the trusses and place the OSB on to the trusses, and two iron worker friends that walked the top plates like it was a sidewalk. This building ended up out of my DIY scope for the timeframe I...

10/31/10 Although I'm using a steel roof, using OSB and felt paper will prevent the steel from sweating and dripping on the cars. I plan to insulate and put a ceiling in someday but it's not in the budget right now. Who would have thought the weather was going to cooperate at the end of...

We currently don't have any Pontiacs but a 1998-2002 Trans Am or 2008-2009 G8 GT V8 would be at the top of the list! I need a car with the LS engine!
