    Craftsman C- series socket- 1930's

Nifty. I have most of the C-Series 9/32" drive set that I'd never bothered to look up because they're not much use in the practical world without a drive tool. After looking them up on Alloy Artifacts I was surprised to find out I also have the original box (missing most of its decal) which had...

    Companion Tools at Sears?

The thread may have been dead for five years but that's potentially useful information. I only have a few nearly-new Companion tools in my secondary box but I might talk to someone about a dead Gearwrench and see what they say. Then again, maybe not since the last time I went to my local Sears I...

    Looking for a tool

Dannmar (two "n"s) makes a portable two-post lift called the MaxJax. Their (current) portable scissor lift is the Cadet 6000. I've been called a tool before but my name isn't Jack so I can't be more help than that.

    Air Compressor Recommendations

I recently finished my compressor hunt and can certainly agree with what others have said about looking on Craigslist and taking your time. I finally ended up with a 60G tank with unknown pump (17.5cfm at 850RPM, though) and nearly new Baldor 5HP 1-phase motor for $250. It took two weeks, during...

Snazzy (very) old metal lathe just north of Denver

It's not mine and it never will be (I already have, and regularly use, a Barnes 4-1/2 from the 1890s) but I thought it may be of interest if anyone is in the area. http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/tls/4014728595.html

Crack Blastin' (A Rust Removal Issue)

Re: Crack' Blastin' (A Rust Removal Issue) I'll also advocate for the use of a spot blaster and black beauty. It probably won't be much quicker than a cup brush but it'll do a better job and you'll burn fewer calories doing it. In addition to what everyone else has said (I'd wear goggles AND a...

metal rescue I must tell everyone about this

Not to be a downer, but it's likely just premixed oxalic acid. If not, oxalic acid behaves the same way - eats rust but leaves paint alone. You can buy it dry fairly cheap and mix your own (just add water). I'm soaking a little vise it some right now.

Toolbox ID for a new-ish guy

I think jjjrmx5 hit it. I was thrown off because there aren't any hints of a seam anywhere between the two sections. When you start looking at the actual construction, though, you find that they must have bent and welded new steel to the vertical corners along with adding welded plates to cover...

Toolbox ID for a new-ish guy

Ha! Right you are, and now I have something to read up on since I've never actually heard of that company before. The three upper drawers are actually part of the whole thing, not a separate intermediate chest - there appears to have been a separate locking cover for them which has been lost to...

Toolbox ID for a new-ish guy

Hi all. I've been reading this site for a while now and the main result seems to be that I have apparently ruined my brain. One byproduct of this is that I'm now wondering about the brand and age of my toolbox instead of simply contenting myself with putting things in it and taking things out of...

    Mini Lathe

Yep, as an occasional watchmaker myself I can certainly confirm what the others have said about it being a watchmaker's lathe. They're quite useful in the garage, though, as I've recently used mine to cut a new pair of needles for the twin SU carburetors on my car so depending on the direction...
