Can you give some examples of waterproofing products, or what would be better to use than tar?

Thank you and I understand that it is waterproofing. I guess I am asking will there be any damage to the block walls over time if the tar is not applied? Does it matter if it gets applied? Is it standard practice?

Simonac: Just wondering why you have the exterior verticle strips of wood. Is this to allow nailing surface so that the nails don't penetrate the sheathing?

Nice job on your garage. So if my calculations are correct, it took you 8 days to get from start of framing to the point where you are ready for siding? Are you doing the work yourself?
