    DA Sander Sizing??

on ones you can get replacement parts for (eg. dynabrade) you can switch pads but you need to replace the motor shaft with balance weight on it too, afaik

    Cold chisel/Files/hacksaws

I have one like that 225, I'm not sure where it came from, dad had it as long as I remember. It's Sandvik branded though. I wonder if Sandvik was the originator and not Bahco (they merged sometime in 80/90s?). Sandvik blades were always good too. I think bahco stills sells them as sandvik...

That comparison photo really shows how chunky the handles are. Yeah, not my thing I don't think.

Got this old challenger set. Not sure when this dates from, any ideas? The 3 smallest sockets and the extension aren't correct.

    DA Sander Recommendation?

Yeah they are all very thirsty for air, We have a decent size air compressor and it can't really keep up. Now we need a bigger air compressor. :bounce:

    Tools from the old world

I think it's actually sandvik logo. I'm not sure when bahco became a thing or they connected or whatever. Fish hook needs to be hard to keep a point but ductile enough to not shatter when big fish pulls on it I guess. Also sweden known for fish, maybe biggest export then. (fish, wood, and steel...

    Anti seize on wheel lugs

Idea is that a specified torque translates fairly well to a load on the bolt. If you change the friction, and keep the same torque, the load changes (higher in the case of lube). They're worried you'll exceed the yield strength and break the bolt. but i think the margin is fat enough it doesnt...

    Anti seize on wheel lugs

Always. Hate when I work on other people's cars with dry rusty threads

Any suggestions for keeping a hoist chain from rusting badly?

If you don't want it to stain your hands with oil, I guess either use a pretty long chain wax (like candle wax so not sticky). Have to thin it with naphtha or similar to get it liquid i guess (or heat it, maybe both). Or maybe linseed oil or similar (it dries out and leaves a film) There's...

    Brake fluid

A lot of manufacturers say 2 years, but I think that is probably only needed if you live in a swamp. Its semi-arid here and I only change it if I have to have the system open anyway, not as a routine maintenance. (unless I just bought the car and it was black, or something). So thats more like...

Yeah, the DoD must have ordered way, way too many. Used to be able to get them new in army kraft/foil paper pouches a few years ago for peanuts. I think early 80s production.

What Is Wrong with This Ratchet?

The guy that grinds off the forging flash had a bit of a hangover I guess.

How to get ancient grease from a tiny gearbox?

Soak it in varsol, stir it up, once it's mostly cleaned out blast it with syphon gun & varsol, etc. Though sometimes I just put things in a bucket of hot hot water & dish soap. blow dry after. Might be wise with the price of solvent lately. (probably not suitable if the gearbox doesn't detach...

Help with disassembly of these ratchets.

Something small and pointy to get the end up (jewelers screwdriver or something like this) then once you have half a turn up you can just unwind it with your hand.

    too many tools

I can't really see a need for 25 pipe wrenches, but 50 screwdrivers seems way too few for me. Guess it depends what you work on.

    storing tools in pickle bucket

I can't really see the (HDPE?) bucket absorbing much acid. I guess if you're concerned you could fill the bucket with water and a base for a few days (soda, lime, something like that), I'd imagine that would neutralize anything left. Guess you could line the bucket with a trashbag or something...

refurbished circular saw- acceptable degree of variance

It's only runout if it changes as it rotates (eg. warped blade, bent shaft), right? I think this is more likely the stamped guide isn't parallel to the blade.
