    Steelman Pro Long swivel sockets

The only steelman tool I have is a 2-5/8" axle nut socket for the inner nut on heavy truck steer axles, it was everything i expected for $22, but that's also a simple tool to make.

Bar and chain oil. Whats a quality one?

I used to think bar oil was just bar oil and get whatever was cheapest, then a local dealer turned me onto Bay oil. Its made in massachusetts and can be bought in 1 gallon or 5 gallon pails. I love the stuff, its dark red so you can tell how much is being put out and i swear its the tackiest...

    Can I run a 32” bar on a Stihl 462

eh, probably not the best idea, my husky 394xp (94cc saw) doesnt even like to push a 36" sometimes in hard wood, so i'd imagine a saw two classes below would not like a 32. I have a husky 372 (72cc's ) and i would never dream of running that big of a bar on it. Okay im lying, i did run the 36"...

    Sk recommendations

Their 1/2" ratchets in regular, long, and flex head are absolutely perfect in feel and function, also think their 1/4 short/long/and flex are great. I have alot of their 3/8" ratchets and they are great but not quite best in class (still would recommend a 3870 roto if you can find one). Hmm...

    Compressor Age

Can you borrow a boroscope? pull out a bung on the tank and fish it in to see what the inside looks like. If it looks decent, put the compressor outside far away, run extension chord to power it up remotely and let it run for awhile, periodically stopping it and letting it sit for a while. This...

    Vintage S-K Tools

That price is what caught my attention, that was probably a couple weeks pay back then. People always complain how expensive quality american tools are today, but i think they've always been expensive, people just didnt have access to cheaper options before the internet so they just sucked it...

Not impressed with new Channellocks quality

And that's how Channelocks are meant to be used, hard and wiped with oil when done. I still have my first pair of channelock 440's my dad bought me when i was 12 as a way of saying, you need your own tools, here's your start to stay away from mine lol.

Looking for a good mechanic's creeper

I second plinker, i have the whiteside, paid $80 shipped from amazon, same as my coworkers Mac and my other coworkers Snap on for less than half the price. Mac doesnt even try to hide the parent company, they left the whiteside logo's on it. I tried craftsman, harbor freight, and the plastic...

    MAC tools ratchets

The old school 30 tooth ratchets are fine pieces after getting beat up some, i had my dealer rebuild my xr8pa (30 tooth regular length ratchet with red plastic handle), it was so notchy and had so much backdrag that i hated using it for a few months until it got worn in again. I think their...

I am curious about Cornwell tools

Honestly Cornwell's Hardline is fantastic USA tooling, and even though they rebrand the other stuff, they sell it at fair prices unlike alot of other truck brands that double the price on rebranded stuff. I wish I could get the local dealer to stop at our shop but he is just stretched too thin...

Should I "upgrade" my tongue & groove pliers?

Channellock, knipex and wilde all make awesome sets, as mentioned knipex only come in curved jaw (which are amazing at what they do), so if you want straight i'd say channellock or wilde. Just an observation, every 70 year old wrench turner has a thoroughly used looking pair of channelock water...

    Is oxy-acetylene welding still used?

Use torch for cutting all the time, the only thing i still like oxy welding for more than other choices is two stroke exhaust pipe welding. Did a fun project for my buddy building a sleeper sled where we cut the stock pipe/muffler combo apart and opened up the restrictive stock muffler, then...

    Recommend me a splitting axe

You need a maul, axes are for felling or making small kindling. Honestly any maul will do, i like hitting flea markets or garage sales and finding a vintage one and you can fit a handle you like to it. Also stick with wood handle even though fiberglass takes more abuse, wood is better on your...

Stihl 460 or Husqvarna 365 or Dolmar 79000

Although already decided, my vote goes husky 365. The early models used to be a 65cc saw, but nowadays they're identical to the 372xp besides cylinder porting and intake setup so if you ever need to rebuild you can have a 372xp when youre done. I love mine, got it brand new from my husky dealer...

Air powered drills: worth it to buy vs cordless drills?

Ah, a subject near and dear to me. Cordless stuff has definitely come leaps and bounds from what it was, but what your intended use is determines if it could replace air. I actually use both a 1/2" ingersol rand air drill, and 3/8" blue point right angle air drill quite extensively. I get a lot...
