    Craftsman socket dating

Great, thanks! Okay, follow up question - when did Craftsman go from the long-C Craftsman logo on the sockets, to the =V= design (without the part numbers)? I'm guessing late 1940s but I could be wrong.

Do you still use SAE much ?

Most of the vehicles I work on as a hobby are 30+ years old, so SAE in my garage is used MUCH more than metric. Now at work, most of the vehicles are no older than 10 years old, so metric carries the day.

Does anyone know when Craftsman started putting the part numbers on them?

    **** Tools

THIS. My first tools I bought were ****. I thought I could save a few bucks and I bought the cheapest stuff I could find because I didn't have a lot of money, surely I had no credit, so I got what I could afford. The Chinese made junk didn't last more than a few uses before I learned my...

    First "pro" tools, need reassurance

My two cents: Over 99% of my hand tools are quality made-in-USA tools. I'm not saying that all USA-made tools are fantastic, and I'm not saying that all foreign-made tools ****. I believe firmly in supporting American-made labor, so I tend to spend my money on products made here. Anyone who...

Ridgid 8" resto - $1 yard sale project

Very good work! I'm not a fan of restoring to original vintage tools, but when they are this bad, once cleaned up and stripped of all the old gunk, I'd repaint it, at the very least just to protect it from new rust development. Spraybomb it red with black jaw and nut, it will look great and...

Belt for Craftsman 100 tabletop drill press?

Yeah, sometimes I ask stupid questions, then people give me good, obvious answers and then I'm like "DOH!". Didn't even realize the frayed, used belt on this press is a standard car fan belt, and can be replaced with same. Off to NAPA I go.... Thanks, guys!
