How to heat existing three-car attached garage...

I had a UDAS unit. I felt that the price difference was a bargin for the insurance it offered. I'd be kicking myself if the place burnt down and an extra $300 could have prevented it. Don't worry about the efficiency. In a typical garage it won't matter. Focus on keeping the cold out instead...

SOFT asphalt driveway, kids bike kickstand makes a hole

@JimR1998 I don't know about the others who have replied here. But I've been around asphalt production since I started grade school. I've been on site, at the plant, climbed on the stone piles, hauled a million tons of agg with my dad, raked, shoveled, ran a screw, rollers all years before I...

Unfaced ceiling insulation with paint as vapor barrier

Not a bad idea if done from top. I have to install venting baffles to the soffits anyhow. I would have preferred do something like this to keep the cellulose from dropping into the soffits. I don't expect the baffles themselves to do much to stop blow in from finding its way into the soffits.

Unfaced ceiling insulation with paint as vapor barrier

Re: Unfaced ceiling insulation wilth paint as vapor barrier Yes, I'll need to remove the subfloor and install the insulation. The attic already had flooring in it when I bought the house. I've been doing the work in phases since I moved in and didn't consider the need for a vapor barrier when...

Unfaced ceiling insulation with paint as vapor barrier

Re: Unfaced ceiling insulation wilth paint as vapor barrier I agree this would be ideal, but with the drywall already back up and the ceiling finished (and painted) my options seem limited to the few I listed in the 1st post. Joists are 2x12 and on 16" centers meaning I have a 11-1/4" by...

Unfaced ceiling insulation with paint as vapor barrier

Re: Unfaced ceiling insulation wilth paint as vapor barrier Yes, lots of discussion and differences of opinion on this topic. Here was a good post: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412533 that helped with my research. Seems most of the brands are latex based but oil based...

Unfaced ceiling insulation with paint as vapor barrier

Attached are pics of ceiling after I raised it 14". It didn't occur to me at the time to add vapor barrier before we reinstalled the ceiling with 5/8" drywall. BTW, the new joists are 2x12 and the ceiling is already finished. Now I'm finally planning to adding insulation to a section of my...

Got my 32" radius garage door tracks installed yesterday

garageInfo, Here's pics of the 32" radius track that was added to my existing vertical track. In the first pic, the track is directly bolted to the soffit that was created when I raised the ceiling 14". It's actually the old ceiling that wasn't raised. I clear the LED lights by an inch or...

Got my 32" radius garage door tracks installed yesterday

When I did this, it was a simple swap out the old curved piece for the new one. No need to extend or add to the existing vertical track. Plus the transition for the door section matters. While it might hug the ceiling you need to make sure it can transition the curve without rubbing on the...

Can we talk about a patio build here?

Dahigon, Will it it be attached to a garage? I mean no offense, but I've noticed as this site has grown, there's more building related questions than garage related building questions. I'm all for helping out a "neighbor". That's what forums like this do, allow us to exchange information...

Attaching Garage Door Horizontal Rail Supports to Wall Instead of Ceiling?

Do it. I did. When I had high lift track installed on my existing doors the track was raised about 12" and couldn't use the triangulation that's normally used. My wall was finished and we needed about 1/2 more clearance so we got out the skill saw and cut a shallow kerf down the wall so the...

    Curtain Wall Ideas

I had a curtain made for my last shop by a boat canvas shop. I had a roll of denier nylon that I had cut into panels and sewn together. It was roughly 30' long. The top was hemmed like curtains in the house and I had big grommets (maybe 1") spaced every 12 inches or so. The bottom was hemmed as...
