Things in your garage that you wish WEREN'T in your garage.

8' ceiling! I really wish it had 12' or even 10' ceilings. I don't use my garage for much that's not automobile related. It has a lot of stuff in it, but I do have 3 vehicles parked in it with my benches, tool boxes, compressor, etc. I really try hard to keep non garage stuff out of the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I took 1/2 day off of work and got a bit of tinkering done that I just haven't had time to do. I cleaned and then polished my windshield with Ceriglass, changed wiper blades, hit the plastics with Solution Finish to bring it back to normal color and then finally wet sanded and polished my...

I've never ran into any for $200, but they can be found for under $500.

    HVAC Quote Question

Seriously look into an inverter. My house stays so much more comfortable and uses less electric because unless it's really hot or really cold, it runs at much less than 100% capacity. Check our Amana and Daiken to get some ideas on quotes. I'm not sure where you are in MD, but there are...

    DIY Mini Splits

@tunerwithkids How has the Yitahome working out for you? I just watched your video and it looks like you bought the 220 version? I see they have a 12,000 BTU, 20 SEER, 120V for $446 shipped and I'm considering it for either my garage or 12x20 wood shop. It seems like a no brainer for the price.

How close to garage door for mini split?

Install it close to where you work the most so it makes you the most comfortable.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Well, a place where I volunteer needed an electric lock changed out because they lost the key and it wasn't functioning right. I swapped it out for them with a new one, but took the old one home with me. Without having a key for it, it makes it difficult to rekey it. I tore it apart and was...

    Garage Sound system options?

The answer has already been said a couple times in this thread and in many others. A traditional receiver, a speaker in each of the 4 corners and an Amazon Alexa device where you can get it to play about any station or use Amazon music. I have them in my garage, woodshop and all over the house.

5 Ton AC unit needs replacement

Look into a heat pump that meets the tax credits. It's definitely over $10k though. I just replaced my upstairs unit, had a larger return added, new lineset, new thermostat, new drain pan and drain. I was between Amana and Daiken for the warranty and inverter setups. I ended up going with...

3 years later, hollow sounding areas under my 24x26 monolithic pour.

My wife used to work in the office for a place that did a lot of concrete leveling and filling voids at a commercial level. They used this stuff. https://www.polylevel.com/

Need a bit of advice for cooling an entryway?

Is the rest of the house air conditioned? If you insulate and finish the room, why not run ductwork to the room for cooling?

    Maintaining/cleaning paver driveway

For cleaning it, pressure washer is the way to go. We have a big area at the ballfield that had moss and really discolored. I pressure washed it last year and it made it look great.

    Heat Pump

Nope, I leave mine set to auto with a 5 or 6 degree spread in the A/C vs Heat setpoints. Depending on how many months it's been, you might be due for a return filter change soon.

    Ice Machine in your shop?

We have 2 Manitowoc's at the baseball field for the concession stand. They are reputable and what you see in a lot of businesses.

    Heat Pump

Everything was installed yesterday. It's so much quieter than the old one that you can barely hear it running. It was running at between 25%-38% capacity the times I was checking it last night, so that's a good sign. It was 80 degrees upstairs when they finished the install and it didn't take...

Basic HVAC Skills for Homeowner / Handyman?

I can do about everything, but don't get into HVAC too much. Thermostat replacement, ductwork and capacitor's the easy things. I replaced the circuit board on my heat pump a few years ago too. You can figure out a lot with a good clamp meter.

    Heat Pump

By the numbers, it doesn't make much sense. The Gree Flexx has lower SEER2, EER2 and HSPF2. It has the energy star seal, but the Goodman does not. I really like the communicating units like the Daiken/Goodman, but may end up with the Gree just because of the $2k rebate. I live in a town...
