    Bridgeport mill id

IIRC, M heads came in 2 different collet tapers, #7 B&S or #2 MT. Max capacity of either is 1/2".

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

IIRC, Gerstner may be the only maker that has a horizontal structural piece between the 1/2 length drawers and the full length length drawers. I'm not aware of any other brand that did that.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I'll shoot from the hip and say it's a Union box.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I have a similar top box, it's a KR-537. The bottom is probably a KR-557. As others have said, the model number should be on the back of each.

What brand power tools do the pros use in your area?

CGarage, I don't think it's a formal definition, but quick and dirty one. He referred to the "wet trades" as the "systems", sprinkler, plumbing, HVAC, electrical. He's a site super on that side, dealing primarily with the HVAC and plumbing trades. The dry trades are the carpenters, structural...

What brand power tools do the pros use in your area?

My younger son is a superintendent for a large construction management company in NYC. I asked him this question yesterday when he came for a visit. He says the carpenters and what he calls "dry trades" use mostly Dewalt, while the "wet trades", plumbers, HVAC, steamfitters, and electricians...

I use those indices for straight shank reamers too, 1 for fractional, another for #1-60.

Thoughts on replacement toolbox push handle?

I was able to find one of those handles for my taco cart on ebay for reasonable price. It was missing 1 of the aluminum spacers, but that was easy to make especially having 1 as a sample.

Parker 955 purchase and unanswered questions

I have Parker, Reed, and Columbian vises. None of them had anything that prevents you from completely backing the dynamic jaw out. I've never seen any vise the had such a feature as standard.

    4 point sockets

These days, I use them mostly to drive taps that are too big for my largest tap wrench. I use an 8 or 4 point socket with a sliding t-handle.

    4 point sockets

Williams made both 4 point and 8 point back in the really old days. I picked them up dirt cheap over the years at swap meets.

    Little issues with house

If that is a galvanized pipe going into cast iron, it may well be an oakum/lead joint. I was able to take a punch and tap the lead further down into the oakum, sealing up a small leak. I did it 32 years ago when I moved into this house and it never leaked again. I just worked my way around the...

Craftsman perforated tool tray with cross folding handles

IMO, it looks hacked from a conventional, but perforated tray they sold in the '60's. It looks like the ends were cut down and the folding handles added so it could be put into the top of a chest. I doubt the ends would have been left sharp and not hemmed over like the long sides. I have 1 of...

Best way to store drill bits in a tool chest?

I use 2 of these for fractional and number drills. Always on the hunt for 1 for letter drills. I also have indexes for work away from my shop.

Help ID my father's old machine shop tool box

+1 on it being an older Union, before they switched to rectangular drawer pulls. Union used to put their label in the center of the long thin drawer. I can make out the shadow of were the mirror was in the closeup picture of the lid.
