    Craftsman Crown 8-drawer Machinist chest

Not sure which company made your chest, but the KY on the key code is Excelsior's lock code. My Gerstner chest has a KY key code.

    Columbian 03 1/2 Swivel Vise

That's probably the manufacture's part number for that casting.

    Old tool chest id

Looks like a Park to me. Probably been repainted at some point, too.

Frank, the lamp in the photo on the right looks like a Fostoria.

    PARK Machinist Box Info

Back in the early '70's, I worked with a machinist who had a Park chest like yours, as well as a 3 drawer base. The base had a panel that covered the drawers to secure them, similar to the panel on the chest. IIRC, Park may have supplied the chests sold by J.C. Penney under the Penncraft name.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I think that box is a Dodge **** Pack box from the '60's. Not sure who actually made it.

Looking for Critique - Old Wooden Toolbox

I'm glad Ted was able to help you out. I was happy when he expanded his website to include the older series of machinist's chest like yours. Enjoy! Bob

Looking for Critique - Old Wooden Toolbox

Hanging a plate from a place of employment or something used in the process of building the product was not all that uncommon back in the day. I started out my career in the metal stamping industry, my dad was a diemaker on progressive dies. It was common to see a tag from one of the die set...

    Early Monarch 16" Lathe

^^^ +1 on what paulsomlo said about the Heavy 10. That's the really older single tumbler QC gear box model. Having grown up on these and working on them for 50 years, he's off by a factor of 10 in my book. If you're looking for a Heavy 10, my advise is keep looking for a newer model.

Does anyone use line wrenches that AREN'T Snap On?

I still use my father's Williams SAE wrenches from the 40 & 50's. About 10 years ago, I bought Proto Blackhawk metric wrenches. Most of my wrenching is on old machine tools so the SAE stuff gets the most usage.

    Tools on car shows

I like Ian's show, Full Custom Garage, and Iron Resurrection the best. I used to watch Detroit Muscle and the other 3 shows that were part of Power Block, but I haven't seen them on in quite a while. They used to be on Sunday mornings. I would tape them to watch after I came home from the...

    Carpet or hardwood?

Hardwood thru out the house now, except for porcelain tile in the kitchen / family room and ceramic tile in the 2 bathrooms. We originally put carpet in the bedrooms and living areas when we 1st moved in 31years ago. Little by little, it's all been removed and the floors refinished. We do use...

    Breaker bars

The most common use for my sliding T bar is using it with 8 point sockets to drive taps too big for my largest tap wrench, usually pipe taps.

    cool little utica/bonney toolbox

Looks like a Park machinist's chest. They had the same front panel design, and used the same style hardware. I had a Park that I bought used off a co-worker in the mid-70's, so it was older than that.

    What is this punch for?

It looks to me like 1/2 of a setting tool for a #2 grommet. You're missing the die half.

broke a craftsman combo wrench. now what?

The Ace Hardware store by me will NOT warrantee it if it wasn't purchased at Ace. I got that 1st hand from the store manager when I tried to warrantee a screwdriver. I'd just toss it and replace it with another brand or buy another craftsman (or 2)at 1 of the local swap meets for pennies on...

Ultimate Group Buy- Apex tooling auction

One of the other auctions listed on the flyer is for Harvey Industries. We designed and built some work holding tooling for them a few years back, some powertrain part. We put a lot of effort into it, but never got it fully debugged. One day the plug got pulled on the project and it all...
