Standby generator or glycol in radiant heat system?

I was wondering how long it would take for the slab to cool if the system goes down. I guess it all depends on insulation too. I'm in upstate NY but in recent years the big windstorms have occurred in spring time.

Standby generator or glycol in radiant heat system?

Wondering what the opinions are for freeze protection in a radiant heated shop which rarely loses power in winter. Instead of messing around with glycol why not just keep a generator ready just in case of a power failure? With a very well insulated shop, it might take a while for the water to...

Forgot to install pipe for slab sensor

I installed pex in my floor before it was poured for radiant heating but forgot to install a pipe to put my slab sensor in. I already purchased the Tekmar 519 thermostat that includes the sensor. Is there any good way I can install this sensor or will I be OK to just use room temperature control...

    Corrugated Metal Ceiling and Lighting

My ceiling is not up yet, but since I'm running two sets of LED strip lights on 2 switches (one to control front of shop and one for the back) I wired up the switches and ran each romex wire to roughly where my first light fixture will be. Then, one my ceiling is up I will drill a hole thru the...

I knew this would come up after seeing that wire. I used URD and passed my inspection 3 weeks ago.

    Shop Lights!

I've had good luck with the 6 Barrina lights in my attached garage, but for my new build which is similar to yours 24 x 36 with 10' ceiling I'm installing (20) Maxlite 2 bulb 4' led fixtures.

    Insulating a Pole Building

I did something similar to this but placed 1" reclaimed polyiso insulation board in between the outside wall girts leaving a 1/4" gap all around. Then I filled the gaps with spray foam to air seal. Now I'm going to put 6" fiberglass batts in the walls.

    Concrete Contractor in Upstate NY?

Sorry that happened. I had a good experience with him, which is why I passed his name along. I cannot control how he conducts his business. Although its no excuse, this is a very busy time of the year for concrete.

    Studded snowmobile floor protection

Someone here mentioned using horse stall mats from tractor supply placed just inside at the garage door. I'm also faced with this problem, have 1 sled with embedded studs but I have an 8' front apron I purposely put in so I can put the sleds on dollys outside and roll them in. Also in NY, hoping...

Supply house sold me the wrong wire

My wire only has USE-2 marking on it, RHH RHW-2 is not there. So, I will have to install boxes outside both buildings. Not exactly thrilled about this.

Supply house sold me the wrong wire

Yes, if this doesn't pass inspection I will have to install boxes. However I talked to 2 licensed electricians this morning and they said this cable is OK to run inside conduit in the buildings.

Supply house sold me the wrong wire

Last spring I bought the service wire for my new building which I specified I needed 2-2-2-4 MHF. Well they sold me URD cable instead which as 3 black and 1 black with white stripe. This is rated for direct bury but not to go inside the structures. Is my only option to mount junction boxes on...

    Garage layout program?

Sketchup is a great tool for this. You can also google search for your specific equipment and download models of them to import and move around as you want. I've brought in toolboxes, tablesaws, lathes, all types of stuff. 3d warehouse is good for this.

240 volt wiring - how many wires required?

Thanks. And, re-labeling white neutral wires as hot in romex is code compliant?

240 volt wiring - how many wires required?

Does NEC require all 240v circuits to have a neutral wire in new construction? I know that the neutral is required for some appliances such as washers and dryers that would utilize 120v thus requiring the neutral but what about our garage tools like tablesaws and welders? Is it OK to use 3 wires...
