HUGE channel locks maybe? Do they go 2-1/2"? Pipe wrench no...not enough room, jaws too thick. In this case, there is a gasket AROUND the outside of the nut, so there is precious little space for the jaws of the tool to grip that huge nut. That's why I keep thinking "spanner solution" of some sort.

My fave bag (I own four) is the BucketBoss bag, which I use to haul machine tools to the machine shop and back. It's a nice mix of pockets for tools, and open space to hold whatever (large tools, projects) in the center. Zip it, and nothing can fall out.
