    Wasp in the garage!

Last year my wife got stung by a yellow jacket while in her home office. Soon afterwards we started seeing them in my son's room which is on the second floor above her office. I could see where they would come in from the outside of the house in a space between the siding and stone on an...

    Building shelf above workbench

I have that exact type of shelving in my garage. I used heavy duty angle brackets, which if I recall correctly are from Home Depot. I used 3 of them on a shelf which is 8 ft long. I have over 1000 lbs of solid oak on it without any problem. I have tugged on the shelf pretty hard too- just to...

Need some help from any plumbing experts

^^ The only way to work quickly would be to use MAPP gas. Propane is too slow. MAPP is a good thing to have around anyway, so use it as an excuse to buy one.

Whats your innovative ZIP-TIE storage solution?

Tennis ball containers. I play so have lots of them around. Good for many things other than zip ties, too. Just go to any tennis court and you will find them in the trash.

What to use on a Wooden Workbench

I agree with 6768rogues that masonite would be a good choice. This is especially since it looks as if you only have a single layer of OSB on the top. OSB is not particularly strong and the masonite- especially >1/4" thick, will give more structural rigidity if working on heavier pieces. Also...

The 20% off coupon expired yesterday. I have been looking, but cannot find a current one. Does anyone have a link to one that has not yet expired?

Tools you receive for Christmas... post them here

My wife gave me a $500 gift card from Harbor Freight. I am sure it will take a while, but I will certainly use it. Too bad I had already bought myself a boroscope type inspection camera a short while back. I know I could use some impact swivels and extensions. I have to now go thru the...

    HOT DEAL Index!!

Where is this promo? I just received my drill/driver combo in the mail today (unfortunately $189 and NOT $91 from amazon) and would like to get an extra $20 off if I could. Remember that Bosch has a $20 off $100 promo going on. Retailers all over the country are probably reordering more kits to...

    Scissor lift comparison

I have the Bendpak and am very satisfied. The reason that I purchased that one was that I do not have room for a two-post lift. I use it primarily for my 930, and although I have not yet dropped the engine, I know of plenty of people who have done so and it works perfectly for them. Granted...

    School me on cabinet building

What type of cabinets are you trying to build? Stand alone, wall mount, use for storage and/or tabletop? Those factors will influence sizing, bracing, dividers, etc. Basic carcass joinery is done with dadoes and rabbet joints. For shop use I would use glue and screws, and 3/4" ply. Finger...

    Hitachi Nailers, opinions?

I have that nailer and have put more than 6000 nails in with it. It is reliable, seems durable, and has never jammed on me. You can use any nails compatible with the gun. I needed stainless nails, which were not hitachi brand.

Can the 12-Gauge Garage get your vote? (Answer: Yes! Thanks!)

Re: Can my garage get your vote? OK Jack, I voted for you. Not just because of the board, but because I really think it is deserved. Truly it is a DIY project with reuse of materials and innovative ideas, and for that I commend you. And by the way- I have been stalking....I mean...

Anybody else have trouble seeing close up?

I used to make fun of my wife when she started needing reading glasses. Until holding a candle next to a menu in a restaurant was still not enough light for me. She let me use a nice pink pair of readers so I could order dinner. How nice of her. Been downhill ever since. Since at work I...

Nearly new Generac power washer leaking oil

If it is near the sight glass it is common. I had to buy a brass replacement because even with a new gasket the plastic site glass didn't seal properly.

Do you keep tools in the plastic boxes they came in?

I keep them in the boxes for a few reasons. For one, it keeps all blades, accessories, wrenches/keys with the tool without a chance of losing them. The box then gets taken to where I will use it and I will not have to run back to the garage because I forgot something. Also, more importantly...

RUST ALERT!!! What's your all purpose shop oil/grease?

I live in Long Island on a small barrier island and am sandwiched closely between the bay and the ocean. Ferrous metals don't stand a chance in my garage. I have had luck with TC-11 though. http://www.tc-11.com/ It works really well and lasts longer than anything else I can find.
