Wire nuts work well to seal tubes and also caulking cartridges.

2 white wires connected to outlet

Tape is ok, but I like to use a black Sharpie pen to turn the white wire black. Just makes for a neater job.

How Clean Should a Funnel Be?

I always put them in a zip-lock bag after use. That way they are clean without having to clean them before each use. I keep separate ones for each type of fluid.

    Who Has Used An Architect?

I used the architect recommended by the contractor. It was a flat charge that was agreed to up front. I think it was worth it. I did a basic 3D CAD sketch with overall dimensions that I gave to the architect to give him an idea of what I wanted and he took it from there to produce detailed...

How do you change your oil?

I usually use the drain plug, but I have done it both ways. I have a 12v oil pump that I purchased on ebay for a few dollars that does a quick job. The main reason is that a lot of cars, like my Mercedes, have a large shield under the engine with numerous small screws holding it to the frame...

    Caulking extension

I have several places on the second story of my house that I need to caulk, but can't get to them because of roof overhangs or other obstructions. I need about a 6ft reach. Does anyone make a pole extension to attach to a caulk gun so I can reach these areas? Any other ideas?

Planning solar mounting - new roof

These look like the exact type of roof tiles that I have. I wouldn't even think of drilling through them to install some **** fasteners like those, and make a probable leak location. Only a matter of time. Another reason I'd never get roof mounted solar. Plus those solar panels just look awful...

    Dremel Brushes

I've had the same problem with rotary brushes on a Dremel. I found a solution was to put a bead of hot melt glue around where the wires attach. Makes a big difference.

    When to fire a contractor?

This is the law in CA. Seems logical to me. Price – All contracts must include the agreed-to price. Any job costing $500 or more (combined material and labor) needs a written home improvement contract. By law, the job must be completed for the agreed-upon contract price. If the contract price...
