2-part "where do I begin?" question from Central NY

Sean, I would highly recommend RLS Structures. They just built one for my work, a 50x150. Three guys had it done in a week. http://rlsstructures.com/ You might have heard of the owners son. Regan Smith. NASCAR driver. Great family. Yes the pole barn company would come up with stamped drawings.

    (It's) Riding lawn mower time

Why such a large deck for an acre? I usually recommend a 42-48" depending on budget and how much there is to mow around. Husqvarna has a rebate for the last week of March on some of their riders... The LGT2654 has a $150 rebate. Nice mower. Well under your limit. You could step up to a GT52XLS...

    Air Compressor or Welder?!

You can borrow a welder, you can't borrow air though. Or at least I doubt you're going to find someone that would loan you a 60 gallon compressor....

size of ventless blue flame heater for shop?

I have a vent free in our living room. Have for a decade now. Works GREAT! It will add moisture. If you're not heating the space all the time, that will be very undersized to bring the space up to temp. It will however kept it at temp perfectly fine. The ONLY time I can smell ours is when the...

Regular PEX for compressed air lines

To answer your question, yes do it now. That will at least get rid of the PVC. It's not ideal, but if it bursts it won't send shrapnel every where like PVC does.

How many here regularly earn money (income) in their HOME garage?

Yep, took me years to build a strong base of clients. Mainly friends and family. I keep things simple, brakes, check engine lights, the occasional body repair. I have gone months with no side work, then become inundated and work every single day for several weeks straight. Always seems to be...

Anyone experiencing any LED light failures?

I've had multiple CFL failures from different brands and wattage. Others have been going fine for years now. Just started switching to LED, both screw in and 4' fixtures. So far no issues but it hasn't been a year yet so I'm not holding my breath.

Can someone explain how the scrap metal biz works?

Unless you really want to delve into scraping and the why and how to do it, Just take your stuff there and get what you get. I only scrap brake rotors and drums. Very easy, no labor to sort, higher paying than regular scrap and very easy. I save up about 800lb's to make it worth my while...

    Thoughts on this air compressor?

Nice compressor but seems pricey to me. I don't want this to become a which brand is better ******* match. You will know your usage better than any of us will. Are you restoring a car, live on a farm, have a side business at home? If so, go for it, that will serve you well for decades. If not...

    Building without GC Savings ?

My wife and I are thinking of doing the same thing. Our situation is slightly different though. We live in a small town and know all the subs personally. As in, they owe us favors. We helped build our friends house two years ago, from the poured foundation, to the exposed timbers in the living...
