    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The Time Machine: Rebuilding a PNW 1.5 car garage from 1946

I’ve read too many horror stories of it peeling up - I also don’t think it would survive my brake clean parties, welding or grinding, frequent abuse from metal wheel objects (engine stands, jack, wheel dollies, etc). Years ago, we put down an epoxy paint in a shop we were renting- prepped the...

Before, after first coat and sanding, after second coat and sanding (first two pictures posted previously): Close up of finish- far from perfect, but lots smoother than before. Mission accomplished. I’d love to have an epoxy floor or tile, but I know I would destroy both of them doing the...

Yep, you are correct. Portland cement. This is commonly called white washing. I have zero experience with it outside of what I did here, but basically you're applying a thin coat of cement over the top of an existing concrete surface. This is not a fancy coating - this is what poor people...

Thank you. I've still got the last two windows to install, and patch the hole of the existing window on the back wall. You can see that one (painted white, panes and all) in my 2nd to last post. I've been putting this project off for some reason, but I gotta get on it soon.

2nd round of Portland- lots smoother this time. I know it will never be perfect- the concrete is from 1946. But it was wayyyyyh better this morning after sanding. I think one more round of sanding will be good enough.

Rented a floor sander and went over it with 60grit- surprisingly better results than I thought I could get. I think I’ll recoat the low spots, rent the sander one more time and call it good.

Finished brushing in a coat of Portland with some bonding agent. I think this will be better than what I had, and wasn’t very expensive to try. My girlfriend got home from class and helped me finish up, which I desperately needed.

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The Time Machine: Rebuilding a PNW 1.5 car garage from 1946

Ok guys, today I gotta find infinite motivation- plan is to empty the garage, pressure wash, refinish walls and floor, push everything back inside once dry. I’ve got a bucket list tool coming next week and I don’t want to be refinishing the floor later around it (too heavy to move most likely)...

    New welder in the shop.

Hey Dave, Keep us posted on the welder! For the migraines, I've never tried this, but the internet says this helps: Heat and cold therapy. Try this the next time you feel a migraine coming on: Put a cold pack on your neck and forehead. Meanwhile, put your hands and feet into hot water (as hot...

Part of the tool organization involved moving prior drawer tools to pegboard. I found some metal pegboard from Lowe’s that came in a flat black color- I scuffed and shot them to match the cabinets. Here’s the first couple nearly done- it will get a framed border to finish it off. The metric wall...

Here is the link if interested. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/lixhult-cabinet-metal-gray-70328669/ Dimensions: Inside floor level is flush with the opening. They have some other cabinets that came close to making the cut, but the main thing I need these for is paint/solvent/resin storage, so...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The Time Machine: Rebuilding a PNW 1.5 car garage from 1946

Small update time. I've been pushing to get the windows installed on the back wall, but rather than tripping over everything to do so, I've been on a mass organization campaign for tools and car parts. My last post shows the car parts side of things - that's going pretty good actually. The...

I’ve been battling the clutter lately, finally biting the bullet to sort the storage totes, filter out the small stuff, and move them to storage cases. I plan to take pictures of each case when finished, mark where they live in the attic, and create an album on my phone for easy locating of...

This weekend has been good to me. I got both windows assembled and primed. Hopefully this week I can get them installed, which would be a huge milestone. Time to go look for birds while the primer dries.

Well it’s been a massive struggle to get these windows going, but I’m finally making progress (also you can see my burn pile… this is day 6 of cutting things up small enough to fit in the stove). I got the jambs made up on the jointer, then more or less replicated what I did on the first...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The Time Machine: Rebuilding a PNW 1.5 car garage from 1946

So this stove is pretty beat up, but it has a story. My grandparents, dad, and uncle relocated from Southern California to Notus, Idaho in 1964, when my dad was 5 or 6. My grandma's family was not a fan of my grandpa, for a multitude of reasons, including knocking up my grandma at the age of...
