A big drag-link socket works perfectly for that. I soaked the bolt/swivel base in Master Blaster for two days, then used the drag link socket on an 18" breaker bar. Magic!

My first Prentiss vise was missing the retaining nut I replaced it with a shaft collar/set screw and it has worked perfectly.

You'll have to heat the collar and pry up the "teeth" that are pressed into an indentation in the screw. If you damage the color, you can replace it with a shaft collar and set screw.
