X2 on the need for Diesel drinking compressor. Other than that, IMO piston compressor pumps should be made from cast iron not die cast aluminum. Quincy QR 325, 340 or similar for the OP's size cabinet. Or Diesel

Have a power unit that is also noisy, built a box that fits around the pump, from 3/8 plywood lined with sonic foam. Much better now.

I've had several of those for many years. Great for spraying rust proofing concoctions and solvent for washing off machines. But worst thing for spraying small focused amounts of wd40 or other for cutting oil type application. They put out a lot of liquid in short order.

I will check out that thread. WD40, what the heck? Keep selling the gallon cans but no spray bottles? They know they make a killing on the aerosol cans and that's what they want folks to buy. EDIT.. I checked out the "Spray bottle" threads.......holy ****! It's not just me!

And will they shoot a narrow far range stream? Looks like the short stroke pump.

Years ago they provided a nice wide bottom spray bottle with the short stroke pump. You could apply small amounts, and the wide bottom bottle was stable and not easy to tip over. Seems they are gone now? Can't find them anywhere. The newer bottles are a narrow bottom, probably tip over easy and...

Looks like a cool place. There's an engine/ tractor show we go to and these compressors are always there. I didn't rebuild the basket case. Just straightened the PTO shaft that was bent, replaced an oil seal, and replaced the coupling between the pump and engine, put it back together.

As long as they get you to buy their product they don't really care.

When I need 'more' air, I fire up the basket case. Well...it was a basket case when I got it.

Search the used market for names like Clemco and Schmidt. They are the real deal.

Here's a Curtis compressor from 1925. It lingered on Marketplace at $150 for weeks, and when I finally inquired about it the seller said $50 or he's going to scrap it (his fathers estate). Since it was less than a mile away, I saved it.

Don't think I'll be importing any small $14,000 blast cabinets in the near future.....yikes.
