Sissor Truss for lift, How many?

Hi, I'm planning on installing a 4-post lift in my yet to be built garage. I'm planning to have a 9 to 10 foot ceiling with attic in the forward end of the building with the lift going in the rear under sissor trusses which will give me more ceiling height in this area. How long should I...

Blocks or poured concrete on top of slab

No, don't have to do that here. simply going with a slab that's deeper for about 18" around it's edge. Then walls.

Blocks or poured concrete on top of slab

Hi, I plan to use block or poured cement on top of my slab for the bottom 6" - 24" of my walks? What are the pros and cons of using each? Should they be connected or held in place with anything other than gravity? Is there a name for building a wall this way? Tks.

    Optimum distance between garage doors?

Hi, Any opinions on the Optimum distance between garage doors and between the doors and side of building? I'm considering a 32' wide building with two 10-foot wide doors with 4' between them and between the doors and sides of building? Is this a waste or not enough?

    Lift location inside garage?

I see a lot of people are putting their lift in the back end of the garage rather than in the front by the garage doors? What is the logic behind this? Pros and cons? I was set on putting mine directly at entrance in front of a garage door but now wonder if it would be advantageous to have it...

    Help deciding on Garage Dimensions

10' would be wide enough for me and my vehicles. Would a 16' give me space to park two normally sized vehicles side by side thus in essence giving me space to park 2 vehicles whereas a 10' would only allow one? Here's my logic, is it flawed? Two ten foot doors = two vehicles, 10' + 16'...

    Help deciding on Garage Dimensions

Any opinions on garage door size from people who have lived with them? I'm thinking three 10' doors on the front but someone else mentioned two 16' doors may be better. Any opinions. I will have a car lift so it may make sense to have only a 9' or 10' foot door in front of it (since most...

    Help deciding on Garage Dimensions

I am somewhat limited in square footage but will be applying for a variance in any case. That shouldn't be an issue since I have a very large lot but a smaller building will mean easier approval. I would like to keep below 1300 square feet but I am flexible and if going a few feet wider or...

    Mini split vs. electric

Hi, I'm just getting ready to build and was set on getting a mini spit for my garage until I was told by and HVAC friend that an electric heater may better and more efficiently serve my purpose. My garage will be about 1200 square feet. I live in Canada but do not get really cold winters...

    Help deciding on Garage Dimensions

Hi, Just deciding on garage size. Unsure if I should go wide but shallow or narrow and deep. I can go with two or 3 garage doors on the front and want to put another garage door in the side near the right rear of the building. The width I go will directly affect how deep I can go...

Best layout for 970 sq foot garage??

OK, you're thinking two or three doors on one of the long sides of the building rather than two on one of the short sides? There are pros and cons to this. One other thing to add. I'm on an acre lot, Garage will be next to a two story house. So far there are no small cars in my family.

Best layout for 970 sq foot garage??

Hi, My town will allow me to build a garage to a maximum of 970 sq feet. I want to get the most useful space inside this as possible. I'm thinking a rectangular shape with two, 9 or 10 foot wide doors in one end. I've been playing with 26x36, 28x34, 30x32, and 24x40. My garage will...
