Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Unfortunately, not too much. I've got most of the Polygal cut for the clerestory, but not installed. The electrical isn't done, but I plan to start on it soon. Winter is pretty tough here. Here's a couple photos from back in Dec. Impressive cornice from the neighbors garage. And off the...

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

You're pretty close. We're on the other side of the creek and a little west. It's uncanny how some neighborhoods are so recognizable. A couple people nailed it on the first page or two of the thread.

    24x46 Garage/studio

Wow Curt. That's a beautiful project you've got going. I saw it on the front page, can't believe I missed it back in Sept. We've been working on a very similar garage. Shed roof, 2x12 rafters, quirky siding... I've got a full thread going here...

    Best in 2010

Thanks James. It's an honor to be mentioned with some of those. Your garage and lupinsea's sheds are my favorites for the year.

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Not much progress lately. Did some prep for the Polygal, but had trouble cutting it. Plywood blade for the circular saw should be the ticket. Also installed some nylon brush weatherstripping around the door. Looked all over for something better than the PVC with the flap and finally found this...

    Garages at Night Thread

Working with the utility light on the floor. Electric isn't in yet. Once I get it finished I'll post some proper pics. The Polygal isn't installed in the clerestory either. Build thread is here if anybody is interested: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73263

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Thanks James. I've been watching your build too, it's really impressive. I love the exposed rafters in your garage, and your attention to detail is second to none. Except for maybe lupinsea. :) We're planning on using vapor tight fixtures for the exterior and a couple on the inside as well. I...

New Gararge Build - Could take awhile.

Looks great. I really like the dark gray.

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Thanks Texas Aggie. We decided that if we were going to build a garage, we were going to do something more than build a space to store a couple cars and some stuff. Many of our design decisions certainly didn't help the cost. Some of that is balanced out by doing part of it ourselves. We've...

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

That's part of it, although for us it had more to do with how the lot is laid out. Our back door exits on that side and we didn't want to pinch the patio area too much. The main part of the garage is 20x20 so we could've spun it 90, the only difference is the setback from the alley line. If you...

Indeed. It's been a great car. Nice to have a place to put it again.

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Siding is finished. Got most of it done on Saturday, and got the last panel up on Sunday afternoon. Turned out really well on the sides that count... the wall between the garages... not so much. Feels good to be done with that part.

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

It's just a stock flashing, 1-1/2 vertical, 1-1/2 horizontal, and a 3/8 drop. Like this |_, but imagine the comma dropping the other way. I had to add a strip of furring behind it to the make up for the sheathing thickness, but if we would've run the sheathing a little higher it would've worked...

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Finally, the Minerit panels start going on. This is a very satisfying part of the process. Sort of the payoff for all of the measuring and tedious prep work. The holes are all predrilled, oversized for the screws. The idea is that panels can float somewhat against the EPDM strips to allow...

That's a neat looking building. I love the roof line. I poked through your build thread, very cool.

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Here's a couple of the completed ipe. This was done a couple weekends ago. You can also see the start of the furring for the Minerit panels. More on the alley side: The furring strips were covered with EPDM rubber strips. The EPDM was held on with spray adhesive. This is glue. Strong...

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Haven't got the Polygal up yet. Honestly, I could probably use some advice and ideas on the detail myself. It'll need to happen soon though, I'd rather keep the drifts on the outside of the garage this winter.

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

I got the Polygal from Laird Plastics in St. Paul. I'm assuming you mean Austin, TX and it looks like they have a location there. They may not do retail to the public, but generally if you call them and sound like you know what you're talking about they may make an exception. They had 4x8 and...

    Gooseneck barn light

Me too! It seems like the parts should be available to do these yourself, but it's hard to navigate the industrial components without knowing what you're looking for. There are plenty of places that sell "industrial" lights to people that just want the look and don't realize that these should...
