Maybe those half rounds are for pipe bending?

Interesting vises - what are the half round shapes on the back for? Looks like they go a little past half round, probably sized to slip fit a couple common pipe sizes?

This would be a great part to 3d print. You would have to have someone draw it for you as well - do you have the original part even if broken? The white plastic often seen in 3d printing is the cheapest material, but there are better options out there. It'll feel different than the OEM rubber...

I have a handful of rules along these lines, but wouldn't consider myself a collector, just nice to have a 6" ruler ready at hand - on the desk at work, in the shop a few places, in the shop apron at work, narrow flexible ones, wide stiff ones, etc.

Wow, that's a monster. While this has obviously survived hard treatment and come out on top, I do wonder about the extra leverage of those tall jaws onto that comparatively small slide down below. I wonder how this would stack up against Fireball Tool's latest vise test.

No pics now but I have a Columbia 504 and 604 vises, and a few wooden planes from Ohio Tools.

Maybe someday I'll round the corners on my middle pulley link arm but that'll be pretty low on the priority list!

Or, I could always take the motor off my benchtop drill press and put it on this one, then get a second motor when I find the right one.

Now the non-stock Westinghouse motor (3/4 HP) that came with it, takes a second or two to get up to speed. What do I check for to make the motor run properly, unless I can find a good deal on a better one?

Jack, I found the manual and stared at the drawings for a minute and came to the same conclusion. The head is held on the column by these collars that that bolt tightens up. The manual I found there's no lever there, just a hex bolt and nut.
