Upon looking at the pictures more it might have been painted, the handle looks like it was painted gold as well.

Could of been military.

I would wipe it down with some light oil to get the rust off and even wipe the painted areas before going full resto on it. It took almost 80 years for those battle marks. :)

I would suggest to leave the paint / condition like it is. I only do big repaints if they vise is beat and needs a lot of work.

Welcome aboard!, While I'm no expert on these, that is a nice early made Bullet. From what I have read right here on GJ the Chicago make it early made but after the fish hook style I think. The experts will be chiming in to save me. :)

Man I almost bought one of these about a year ago but found it tough to spend $800 for it, plus a very long drive. Closer I might have went for it. I just want one of these Reed vises, 1C, 2C, 3C or 4C. Condition is everything though.

Peeling chrome is a safety issue, always was a warranty in the past. as long as it was not run on an impact.

Most companies are going this way now, the industry has changed for sure. To be honest I'm surprised all these tool companies had these warranties all these years.

If that paint job came with a life time warranty then yes. The socket is the same, it had said warranty when bought so it is fair to expect that.

what wright ratchet is it? I might have a spare ratchet.

Not an expert on parkers but I think they made the 974 and 974 1/2 at the same time.

I picked up a wilton C1 earlier in the week. Looks like it was never used.

Reviving this wanted thread. C0 or 835 3 1/2 bullet parts needed. I ended up using my parts gathered to restore a 835 bullet for my cousin. I still need. I need the spindle/screw, nut and the tail cap and a swivel base.
