3 phase grinder / VFD / shiled lamp wiring question

I've completely stripped the huge Hammond of Kalamazoo pedestal grinder and plan to paint it tomorrow and reassemble it soon. I've had it running before, off of 220v single phase into a VFD and then into the switch and motor. However, when I bought it, apparently at some point in its life, the...

what kind of a single switch do I need...

would like to wire up a 3 position switch to run a pedestal grinder and the shield lamps. The grinder is a 3 phase 1.5hp, running off of a VFD. Also, I have a 230 to 115 transformer I can use for the lamp power. What kind of switch setup do I need to look for, and what else may I need? Any...

Attention Quincy Air Compressor Experts! Help Me Identify This Pump!

I'd go to your local industrial tool-rental place and see what kind of lift you might be able to rent for a day to get it outta there. Will be well worth it considering what could happen to you or the compressor when trying to 'cheap-out' on getting it down, particularly since you got it free...

Quincy air compressor paint & decals

I was wondering when the gold and blue colors gave way to each other. I recently sold a 1952 244, and it was originally a gold-ish color, which was under the more recent industrial green. Also, I am currently putting together a Quincy 390 from a local fire dept that dates to about the same 1975...

    moisture separator placement

So, I don't know if a move is in my near future or not, and am setting up a Quincy 390 on an 80 gallon upright tank. Since I'm not sure if it will be in place 6 months or years, I am putting it on a rolling industrial cart for now, just in case. I won't be running any hard lines throughout my...

    Welder for beginner

I learned on a 1991 Millermatic 35 from my dad when he bought it new, and had newly learned to weld while working at a Ford plant. While no pro, I could do a decent weld and have done a lot with that machine over the past nearly-30 years. He'd always let me borrow it, but would never sell it to...

    Resto-Mod Grinder

I have one of these if anyone is looking for an old speedway. It's aluminum too, still has its original blue wrinkle-paint finish on it. I've used it for a basement tool, but now that im consolidating all the tools to the back garage, I bought an industrial 1.5hp rockwell/baldor to cover all...

who makes Champion, Generac, and Simpson motors?

Simpson seems to offer a lot of different engine options, but unless you're buying the Honda labeled units, it seems impossible to identify who/where made the engine. Same with the Champion and Generac offerings. I'm looking at this Champion 389cc unit, can't identify the motor...

    220/440v grinder question

trying to run just the grinder.... the vacuum cage and motor had been modified to collect the dust into a canvas bag and took up so much room that I unbolted the whole assembly and scrapped it, so all I am trying to power is the grinder itself, not even the lamps over each wheel. looking at...

    220/440v grinder question

Couple years ago, I bought an industrial Hammond of Kalamazoo pedestal grinder at a going-out-of-business plant closing auction. I know nothing about them, but it has a 10" wheel on each side, was wired up when I inspected it, and started right up to full speed instantly and was super smooth...

8/2 or 8/3 wire for powering 7.5hp single phase motor?

yip, all true. I had had a harbor freight junker in the garage that had had a 3hp motor on it and the compressor burned up, motor was still fine. I then found a great deal on a Quincy 340/Baldor 7.5hp/80 gallon unit, bought it, and hooked it up to the existing wiring to check it. It worked...

8/2 or 8/3 wire for powering 7.5hp single phase motor?

and, I went ahead and just bought the 6/2 roll of wire to do it overkill. hell, the things been running for years on a 30a breaker and 12-2 wiring with no issues. Wiring never felt warm...but it only gets used on occasion and I only run it to 125psi anyway.

    2 motors off one vfd?

it's a 24x30 garage, 13' eaves. I got all the stuff at great prices, and it gives me something to tinker with. This ought to make it tolerable to work in the garage in the summer...

8/2 or 8/3 wire for powering 7.5hp single phase motor?

It's about a 25' run of wire and is within sight of the panel, but I have a disconnect switch/panel I planned to run anyway. wylie....are you basing the "7.5HP motor needs 50a rated wire. 40a x 1.25 = 50a." on a standard of rating 7.5hp motors as 40a? I was thinking the 32a motor label x...
