yip, all true. I had had a harbor freight junker in the garage that had had a 3hp motor on it and the compressor burned up, motor was still fine. I then found a great deal on a Quincy 340/Baldor 7.5hp/80 gallon unit, bought it, and hooked it up to the existing wiring to check it. It worked...

and, I went ahead and just bought the 6/2 roll of wire to do it overkill. hell, the things been running for years on a 30a breaker and 12-2 wiring with no issues. Wiring never felt warm...but it only gets used on occasion and I only run it to 125psi anyway.
