Another frost wall vs. mono slab question...

Mono's poured here are typically 2x2. No one goes down past frost for a mono. A lot of the frost is sitting 4 to 5 feet.

Starting a new 40x40 needing input

Here's my (still finishing) 40x40x14. I too was worried about the cosmetics of having a tall shop next to my single story house. I was trying to convince myself that 10' walls and scissor trusses were the ticket. But I really wanted to be able to have a 2 post lift and be able to fit my...

    Excavating for footing/foundation

Looking at the lot layout , would it be possible to put in a second drive closer to your property line (-4'6") going uphill and still keep the same orientation to the road? I too would hate to have my garage pointed at my neighbors.

    Excavating for footing/foundation

This makes way more sense and the way I would approach it. Putting a retaining wall along side the current drive and building down the new garage. This would require way less money out with equipment and fill. Plus you can use what you dig out to spread out towards the property line with flat...

Hanging a Chain Hoist from Truss? Thoughts?

What a crock. Throw up some pictures of said failures. Google them. Do you really think or any of the other "sky is gonna fall" crowd think that you are saving a life? Why isn't it posted on tv commercials as a PSA to let people know - don't hang anything from your truss! There's more people...

Will this work? 8 foot garage door with 7 foot opener

It works just fine. The rod that connects to the door should be extendable. I have not had any issues with both of mine.

    Metal roof over osb

Metal is a one and done. Heck, you could have Nutts show up and get it knocked out in a day. He has lots of time off.

    Garage ceiling insulation question.

What about adding an attic? You could square off the ceiling a little lower then blow in some cellulose and have a ton more insulation. Looks like the center peak is at about 14 or 15'. Bring it down and flatten it off on the inside unless you're putting in a 2 post.

    40 x 24

here's 40 x 40. Going 4 wide and still opening the doors would be tough. Especially if bigger SUV's. There's 2' between doors.

    40 x 24

If nothing else is in the garage, yes. It won't leave you with a lot of bench/storage space.

    Metal roof over osb

There are no guarantees in regards to roofing, but I would say worrying about the washers failing would be like worrying that the sun won't ever shine again. A metal roof will outlast a shingled roof. With the metal placed over felt on top of OSB, there will be no condensation.

    Metal roof over osb

Why would you spend the money to put metal down (which lasts forever) then down the road pull it off? Seems to be a waste of time and a lot of money. I've only seen OSB - 30lb felt paper - metal. Done. No condensation.

Cutting contraction/control joints on new pour

The concrete truck left at 10 a.m and we cut the slab at 6 p.m. that same night with one of these. These don't need to have water used when cutting, even though we kept the slab wet. It is a dusty mess though and was done all the same day. Then it was just watering the slab. Its called a soff...
