    Tight space ladder/stairs to loft

I have a small detached garage (12x20) which has a storage loft. I've been using an extension ladder but I'm getting tired of it being in the way, plus it is hard to carry items up/down using it. There has got to be a better way, looking for suggestions!

Wire Temp rating - Heater installation

I am installing this Fahrenheat 5000 watt garage heater in my garage. There is a sticker on the inside of the heater that says "use wire suitable for 75deg C" The dryer cord that I was planning to use has 60C rated conductors. I have a feeling that on my return trip to HD in the morning there...

    Sanity check- Heater wire size

Installing a Fahrenheat 5000 watt heater in my garage. I previously installed a 30amp circuit with #10 and a 50 amp receptacle for a heater. The heater is rated at 20.9amps x 1.25 = 26.1 amps. Seems like my 30 amp circuit should be able to handle it?

    Segregate grinding/metalworking mess

I am about to build my workbench in new to me garage. In my past garage I had one large workbench with a vise and peg board on the back. The vise ends up holding a lot of material for cutting/grinding/welding and the grinding dust and sparks make a huge mess on everything. For the next (12'...

    Flooring Prep & Product Question

My parents want to replace the 4+ coats of old peeling paint on their 60+ yr old garage floor. The goal is a stain-resistant uniform color garage floor. The concrete itself is in great shape, 0 cracks. Since I moved out years ago the garage is only used for parking cars and oil changes...

240V 50 amp outlet on 30 amp circuit

I am wiring two 240v receptacles in my garage for plasma cutter and mig welder. I have two spare 30amp double pole breakers and 10/2 romex. Both tools have 50 amp plugs, but max input currents of 19-22 amps. The only device I expect to add (tig welder) has a similar draw. I don't see an issue...

    Carriage Doors

I need to build some "Carriage House" style doors with window sashes. There seem to be two main camps- 1) Use 3/4 plywood for the structure and trim to suit like Thruxton did here- http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202586 2) Build a frame out of PT 2x4, cedar, steel...

    Framing nail question

Framing a small outbuilding. I have a Paslode cordless framing gun that accepts 2 to 3-1/4 nails .113 to .131" in diameter. Local big orange store has galvanized 3-1/4 ring shank .120" and galvanized 3-1/4 .131 smooth shank for my Paslode. Which would you experienced framers go for?

    Condensate and Racedeck Question

Hello, Sorry if this has been covered before, I did a little searching with no luck. Now that I have bought my own house and moved (most) of my tools out, my parents want to install racedeck into their 2 car garage. The only concern is that their floor condenses a significant amount of moisture...
