Ideas to hold taps and dies?

I have been piecing together a tap and die set from flea market and antique mall finds (antique malls are a GREAT place to nice nice older USA made taps and dies cheap!). My one issue is storage ideas. Obviously I don't want them just dumped in a pile, obviously, and would like a way to have...

Best way to deal with this outdoor concrete surface?

This patio area is a potted slab that is actually over top of my carport area. It’s about 8” thick and supported by steel beams underneath. It’s solid and doesn’t leak, no cracks through it, but the surface is starting to crumble as seen. What’s the best way to approach resurfacing this that...

LED floodlight bulb replacement $3 in some Goodwill stores

If your area is served by Duke Energy they are partnered with Goodwill and have these in some of the Goodwill stores at $3 each, limit 12 per customer according to the sign, but I don’t think they will stop you from making multiple visits.

What years would these Armstrong labels be from

I snagged about 100 of these, all the same, they have the two different style bags. Both say Danaher in one way or another. Much smaller print on the right where it says "A Danaher Company" instead of Danaher Tool Group.

    Who made Husky USA screwdrivers?

I bought a big tool lot at an auction, about 600 pounds, and I have probably 100 or so Husky USA screwdrivers in it. Who made those and when did they quit?

Putting 1950's steel kitchen cabinets in the shop

Has anyone here used a set of the old kitchen cabinets and counters in a shop? The house we just bought has them and my wife hates them, so they are going out. The most any places that deal on antique furniture or building stuff are willing to offer me is $400 because they are the plain models...

Old GE Low Voltage Light Controls

So the home I just bought has the old original 1947 GE low voltage lighting controls that use 24v at the switches to run solenoids that control the lighting. The system for its age is in pretty good shape. I am torn between replacing it all with 110v wiring all the way to the switches or just...

Master Lock Master Keyed Lock Sets-not keyed alike master keyed

I have a few of these sets left after buying a bunch for my shop and home. They are military contract brass locks that are maser keyed. So every Lock has its own individual key but you also get a master key that fits any. This is ideal for situations where you need to give employees or others...

With several posts about thieves I thought I would put my advice in several as post

The single most important thing anyone can do is make a good record of every serial number on anything you have with a serial number. Everything, right down to the batteries on your cordless devices as many have serial numbers now. If the serial number isn't recorded, the odds of you ever...

    Kevlar Sleeves Trade or Sell

I got a bunch of these in a trade, and mentioned them here in the travel tool box thread and several people asked so I figured I would post them. These are Sperian double layer Kevlar sleeve, 24", with the thick elastic cuff that keeps them up in place. Great for working with anything hot...

Are these Power Groove bulbs still around?

Every place I have looked says they are discontinued. The previous owner of my home left some nice old porcelain coated fixtures with these bulbs , and man do they throw out the light. I had initially planned to convert the fixtures to LED but now that I see them with the lights in a like...

Where to start with my "new" old garage floor

Home was built in 1947, garage is the entire basement level. It looks like at some point past they added a thin surface coat because the bases of the jacks holding the floor above up are covered, and in places it is crumbling. Whatever I do will have to be done in two stages, one half then...

    New guy in NC

I keep coming here from Google finding ideas for my new garage space, so I figured it is time to register. I collect tools, military trucks, love fabricating stuff, play with ham radio a lot, and have 23 years experience dealing with military trucks, I finally retired from the USAR as a CW3...
