    1/2" impact socket pictures

Like my 3/8" picture, here compares the relative lengths of 1/2" drive impact sockets. From left to right Astro Nano, Tekton standard, Genius semi-deep (thin-wall), Tekton deep. I like that the Genius is fully stepped. The 10-24mm set (no skips) is reasonably priced and might be the best value...

    3/8" impact socket pictures

My Milwaukee M12 3/8" stubby impact has become my favorite tool now that I own a HO 5.0 battery. The difference is night and day. I have the Tekton set as well as Astro Nano and Grey Semi-deep. That combination works very well.

    Tekton Crowfoots

The Tekton USA made crowfoots are out. I ordered the metric set. I like the holder. It looks like they made some intelligent design choices. Maybe they will make flare nuts next. https://www.tekton.com/wrenches/crowfoot-wrenches

    Snap-on Surprise

I finally got around to upgrading my Chinese fractional sockets (they don't see much use) to USA made Williams. Look carefully at the 1" on the end. I've heard of this happening (from this very forum of course) but now I see proof with my own eyes.

    Tekton Needle Nose

https://www.tekton.com/6-inch-70-degree-bent-long-nose-pliers-pgf10406 Looks like Tekton has started sourcing their needle nose pliers out of Taiwan. They are a couple bucks more than the old Chinese ones but I suspect the quality improvement is worth it. I don't need anymore pliers at the...

Dial torque wrench for differential pinion bearing preload

Greetings, I have a beam type torque wrench but I’d like to upgrade it to a memory dial type. I’m looking at CDI but open to other options. I see torque values on common gears ranging from as low as 5 in/lbs to about 35. The lowest values are when reusing the bearing which seems silly. If...

    Tekton CR-MO

I'm afraid it's inevitable but I am not trying to start an amateur metallurgy debate. This is just sharing information for those who may be interested. I ordered a 35mm 1/2" drive impact socket from Tekton to replace the one from the soft as cheese Harbor Freight axle nut set I bought years...

    Try Tekton

Tekton has launched 3 trial packs for $2. I think that is a great idea and gives people who were on the fence a chance to try out their wares with very little investment. The gems are the drivers and combination wrenches. The sockets are pretty good as are the pliers made in the USA or Taiwan. I...

Tub o’ towels vs Grime Boss wipes

I’ve been experimenting with both. Grime boss wipes have a smooth and a rough side. The rough side really helps clean comfort grip handles on ratchets, overmold on power tools (Milwaukee) and Knipex textured grips. Tub o’ towels are a much larger size per wipe and cost less per wipe based on...

    Tekton

Some Tekton fans here and some who are not. To each their own. https://www.tekton.com/pliers/locking-pliers?utm_source=homepage&utm_medium=hero&utm_campaign=locking-pliers Taiwan manufacturer; wouldn't surprise me if they were made alongside the Doyle from Harbor Freight. However with...

    Stubby flex head wrenches

Thanks to the knowledge I’ve gained here plus my addiction (it’s important to take responsibility for one’s faults) I’ve amassed a large tool collection. One thing I do not have is a set of stubby flex head wrenches. Would any of you please let me know a situation you have encountered where...

    Vendor updates (Astro, Tekton, Trusty-Cook)

Astro Chris hooked me up today after my last post in the general Astro thread. He's a great guy and they have some excellent products. I personally have the under hood light, cable hose clamp pliers, 1/2" Nano impact, "Big nasty" air hammer, straight and right angle die grinder, carbide burrs...

    Snap On Relabel?

Is this the same tool licensed and relabeled by Snap-On? It seems like a gimmick tool to me. It almost borders on Infomercial grade “solution looking for a problem” and I wish Billy Mays were around to yell about it for 30 minutes. Does anybody have one of these and thinks it’s the best thing...

    Astro 150SL Underhood Light Review

KCTyphoon did a great write up on the Neiko underhood light. I almost got one but I wanted to wait and see what Milwaukee had up their sleeve. Then I saw the offering from Astro and had to make a decision. I went with the Astro because it was $80 cheaper than the Milwaukee bare tool and I...

    New house

My new house has a 3 car garage but it is 2 side by side and 1 deep. I am using the deep portion for my small shop. The next thing to add is a compressor probably this Christmas.

    Tool review videos

This is tangentially related to the current bruhaha over AvE's air impact 'showdown.' I made some comments several months ago about Real Tool Reviews which were not particularly kind. Upon further reflection, I wanted to add some nuance to the discussion. Teardown videos are interesting and...

Length of Sunex 1/2" drive low profile impact sockets

I have searched high and low and even watched a completely worthless YouTube video about them and I cannot find their length. Would someone who has them please measure them for me? Sunex 2673 My impact sockets are 1.5"
