Power to GFCI but not working

EDIT: Solved. I had a huge brain fart and had the line on the load posts. Problem solved! Pay attention to your work, fellas. Thanks, all! Disclaimer: Many will think this much Electrical in a shed is overkill. But I’m a homebrewer, running multiple fridges and deep freezers and in the process...

Hanging narrow piece of hardie above door trim

I've got a narrow run of space between the top of my door trim on my new shed and the bottom of the ledger/frieze board wrapping around the front of the shed. It's probably about 2" of space (see attached) When I rip the hardie to put it up there, so I just tack it on like normal to fill the...

Advice on trimming new shed - frieze boards

I'm sure people probably call them different things in different regions. But I'm referring to frieze boards, or the board that goes under your soffits/gable ends as a sort of barrier between the siding and the ridge/soffits. I'm trimming my new 12x20 shed I've been building for far too long at...

    Window trim thickness?

Shed windows are installed and I got the 3/4” x 3.5” PVC trim boards. But the width of the trim isn’t as thick as the window. And it sort of slides in a channel. Is that normal? And I just caulk around it to make it flush and keep it dry? Pic for reference: ETA: I will be siding with hardiboard.

Should I just buy new drip edge?

My lumber delivery was eons ago. Just now unwrapping the drip edge. A lot of it is pretty bent up on the drip side (non nailing side). See pics for reference. Is it worth it trying to straighten these out by hand or easier to just buy new ones? 12x20 shed, would only be about $45-50 for new drip...

    Wrong size hurricane ties?

Am I being an idiot? I went to put up my hurricane ties in my shed and as you can see in the attached pic, they don’t “fit.” The bottom part that nails to the double top plate is too long. Help my ignorant self please. Also, while I’m asking, I assume I don’t have to do hurricane ties on the...

Framing box for rectangular/square gable vents

I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure this out so I must be missing something. Trying to figure out how to build the box for my gable vents on my gable end trusses. I haven’t gotten the vents so I can do any size I want (open to suggestions). Shed is 12x20, 20’ sides are the gable ends, 6/12...

    Shingling questions plus fascia priming/sealing

I'll be finishing up the roof underlayment this weekend on my 12x20 shed (6/12 roof) and then it's on to shingling, which I'm a little anxious about as I've never shingling before and in my research there seems to be 400 different ways of skinning that cat. I already have the ridge vent cut out...

Advice/tips/shaming for accurately measuring rake/gable end ladders

12x20 shed (gable ends are 20’ wide), 6/12 roof. Driving myself crazy putting in the rake ladders. Engineered trusses, couldn’t notch them. So I’m just tying in 12” ladders (we also have zero snow load here). When I decked them roof I overhung the OSB to account for the ladders and I’m tacking...

1x4 or 1x6 for fascia (shed)

12x20 shed, 6/12 roof. Gable ends (front side and back side) have ~12” overhang, sides/eaves are the same with boxed in soffits (vented soffit eaves, gable vents, and a ridge vent). Using 2x4 as subfascia. Trying to decide if I should use 1x4 or x6 for the fascia? I assume it’s personal...

Check my plan for window installation

I'm wrapping my 12x20 shed with tyvek this weekend. And I'm ready to put in the two windows (basic, single hung). I've watched different videos and read different stuff, so I want to make sure my plan is sound and complies with 2015 IRC. My window rough ins are 24 x 36. The windows I am...

Random questions for finishing my shed (hurricane ties, drip edge, roofing felt etc)

I'm getting to the end of my shed build and have a few random questions that I figured I could throw in one thread and hopefully get some advice all in one. Some of these may be, and probably are, stupid questions, but I've never done anything this size, permitted and built to code, so I'm just...

    Advice on rake/eave/soffit ladders

I've gotten a lot of great tips just lurking on this board, but it's finally time for some questions myself. Disclaimer: I'm sure I will use some terminology incorrectly, but hopefully it'll be enough context to understand. I'm currently in the process of building a 12x20 shed, on a slab, 6/12...

Been a lurker for far too long

Hello friends. I'm in the middle of building a 12x20 shed in my backyard for brewing and tinkering (probably 80% homebrewing, 20% tinkering). I keep coming by this site when I'm researching the next hurdle in my build. Finally decided to join. Everything is framed out and sheathed at this...
