Old tongue and groove on 2x4 over gravel, termites/ongoing repairs...

Hi, This is long. Sorry. Not sure on how to Cliff Note this any shorter.. This is in my weekend place in Bisbee, AZ. An old mining town with houses at all levels of repair/disrepair, etc. Mine was built on a old turn-of-century lot cut out of the mountain way top of a hill...around 1980...

10 Inch Metabo HPT Compound Miter Saw won't lift up

My 10 Inch Metabo HPT Compound Miter Saw doesn't freely lift up when I finish cut release the trigger and let go. It sticks. Stays down. Got it in 2019. Don't feel safe with it any more. I've thoroughly blasted it all over with air. Tried some dry graphite on the spring after that but nothing...

What's the shelf life for zip ties?

Seems like whatever I buy turns brittle before I get halfway through them. I'm just DIYer but always busy puttering around the house, garage, and yard, so it's not uncommon for me to grab a zip tie to apply for long term use or to hold something till I cut it. Done Home Depot, Loews, etc...

    Where to find this screw/fastener/?

My wife is replacing the vinyl strips on an old antique outdoor rocker. Here's a photo of what attaches the strips into the metal frame. Any idea where I might find these before I move to screws? I'd rather keep them all the same for aesthetic reasons. Thanks.

Looking for a thin cut jig to fit my Dewalt 7491RS table saw

One I purchased off Amazon is a full 1/4 short of the blade. It's also loose, tough to get it fixed. Further research of reviews on Amazon are saying the same for other options: comes up short on the blade; isn't solid in the miter slots. Far as I can tell this Dewalt 7491RS table saw is one of...

Time for new table saw -- help and recommendations?

Have two large windows I replaced couple years ago in our weekend place I had to retrofit. Wife's patience is up waiting for me to finally finish the trim and give her a shelves inside. I'll have to rip a lot of 6' boards to make the trim fit odd widths after reframing the wall. I need a new...

    Frozen swivel lock on vice

Picked this up for $20 at a garage sale to put on my indoor bench. Swivel lock is frozen on the bolt. I've covered in PB Blaster. Even soaked it in Coke on the wife's recommendation. Any ideas to get it free before cutting it off? Are swivel locks one size fits all if I have to cut it? Thanks

    Small room/wall air conditioner repair?

Can this be repaired or serviced? Fan blows but it doesn't cool It's probably as old as the house, maybe 20 years or so. It's framed into the wall. Nothing I've found matches the same size. I rather not pull it out, reframe and refinish interior and exterior walls. It'll cool my separate 8'...

Cutting 20lb propane tank in half

Valve is off. Rinsed and filled with water that sat for a while. It has since sat open and empty over a month. Wife would like the two halves for planters. I cut a huge water tank in half once with the sawzall and a few blades. Do the same? Use the angle grinder? Quick youtube scan suggests...

    Broke my mitre

Simply cutting some small pecan sticks into chunks for my smoker, blade got caught or stuck and slammed the piece into the fence. Thought the rough cut blade would work OK. Didn't want to use my only other finish blade. Luckily I got the pieces I needed before it happened. Better blade...

Removing a valve from propane tank???

Any tips? I've gone through some Youtube, it's all overly intense. Skipping ahead after weak failed attempts, I've strapped the tank to bench and tried pipe wrench with a cheater bar. No movement at all, and not much room to get the wrench on inside the protective ring. I have a piece of...

    Thanks for the ad!

Howdy, mnev here. I'm in Arizona. Tucson is the permanent home (detached garage with my private work area, inside and outside work benches), and I have a shack on a hill in Bisbee (with separate studio/work area) that will be an endless project with plenty to do forever, including projects to...
