    Basket for tractor

I often carry tools, chainsaw, etc. in the bucket of our tiny Kubota B5100, but every so often I'd forget and dump it on the ground. To get around this, I bought a carrying basket for a ATV and made a sturdy (leftover 3/8" x 3" and 3/8" x 4") bracket to support it off the ROPS. The round bars...

Conduit entrance into shop from underground question....

I've got a footing drain and a lumpy footing that keeps the conduit from tucking neatly against our shop building w/o a lot of effort. If I use 2" rigid or Schedule 80 PVC, what sort of support/bracing/protection will be needed to allow the 24" distance? Drawing is not to scale...

Covering rock wool in our new shop

I posted this in our shop construction thread last night, but didn't get any nibbles... so here's another try in a more targeted forum...

Which M18 impact wrench for on-road tire changes?

Hi folks - I've got lots of M18 tools & batteries... but no cordless/hoseless impact wrench. I'd like to get a 1/2" M18 impact wrench to facilitate trailer/truck tire changes on the road (and away from the shop) for both me and my wife. Any recommendations? Thanks - - Bart

New cat 1 3pt chipper - works well.

Finally got our new Woodland Mills WC68 6" chipper assembled, adjusted and hooked up behind our JD 110TLB... got the saw bracket as well to make it easier to manage. I had to cut down the drive shaft, first time to do that but it has worked out just fine. With the hydraulic power feed set in...

Favorite tool belts - suggestions sought.

I'm working on my shop build (see sig), and I'm finding the tool belt I have (well, it's actually my wife's; my old one dates from the 1980s and is still in CA) sometimes slides down my hips when I'm carrying the usual load of stuff. This is awkward when descending a ladder, so I'm looking for...

Connecting a 0-10V dimming LED UFO light via wires in 1/2 EMT...

I'm doing some planning on the lighting for my new shop (30x48x10), with the the lights at 13' from the floor suspended closely from a cathedral ceiling. Since I know I'm likely to acquire more stationary machine tools ( a small surface grinder, an old radial drill perhaps... ) I'm using EMT w/...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT 30 x 48 shop on Lopez Island, WA

I felt I should start a build thread on our shop on Lopez Island since I'm finally getting to the building stage... but I thought it might be nice to start with some photos and comments about what it has taken to get to this point. Site prep - 2020 This is where the siding for our house was...

    Power failures & GFCIs

Last night a power outage/surge apparently tripped a GFCI outlet in our pump house. This outlet has the heating tape plugged into it, and sure enough the pipes froze up (it's currently 11F and blowing 25 mph here). I've reset the GFCI outlet and am waiting to see what's damaged, but is this a...

Looking at Milwaukee 1/4 driver 2953-20 (bare tool since I have plenty of batteries). Any feedback on that tool?

I'll be putting up my 30x48 metal building soon (well, as soon as they pour my slab).... I have an M18 drill; I want a driver to go along with it, as I've got lots of fasteners to drive. The 2953 Gen4 driver looks more than sufficient from a grunt standpoint; any feedback on this tool?

Need one of those magnetic sweepers....

Hi folks! We've been catching up on years of deferred maintenance, burning a lot of scrap, fixing roofs, etc. on my parent's estate. There's likely a fair amount of screws, nails, etc. laying about from our work and previous re-roofs and redoing the rotting deck will likely create more. I...

    Yet another insulation question.....

I'm eagerly awaiting next week's pour of the slab on our 30'x48'x10' shop here on Lopez Island, WA. We're putting 2" of foam under the 6" slab - easy enough. The plan is to use a mini-split to keep things from freezing/condensing on the machine tools, and a wood stove for comfort when I'm out...

    Hello from Lopez Island

Hi folks - I'm a couple of short years away from retiring, and I'm building our 30x48 shop on Lopez Island ( 15 miles due east of Victoria, BC) at long last. I've got way too many hobbies, and do machining, welding, and even woodworking, as well as working on our ancient Airstream trailer and...
