Pex tubing for air lines, is it safe

I want to put in air line piping for my garage and I am looking at using Pex tubing. I was at Menards yesterday and 3/4" pex is rated at 160psi. I want to know if this is safe. I would use copper but 3/4" copper is in the mid $20's a stick and 100' roll of pex is $40.00. Thanks.
