Skylights: Good idea or bad idea?

I had 2 skylights put in my house and the builder warned me they always leak. 25 years later, including a roof replacement, I have never had a problem. Maybe I was lucky, but I love them, I think it was the best upgrade I did.

Using 4-1/2" angle grinder as sander/polisher

I run a similar pad on an angle grinder with hook & look discs, never had a problem with discs flying off unless I put them on half assed to begin with. I like flap discs too, but sometimes you need to run finer grades than 120.

Recommendations on tankless NG water heater please

I had a Navien unit installed about 5 years ago. It has worked perfectly, absolutely no issues with the unit. With 2 teenagers at home it's nice to have endless hot water, but I don't really see savings on the gas bill. When it comes time to replace it and the kids are out of the house I will...

Any Snap On dealers in the house??

They included most of their hard line tools: wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, etc. They had just come out with a low profile 1/4" ratchet set at the time and I was bummed out it wasn't available at 50% off. I did buy a Classic 78 box, I think it was $1700 plus they gave me a voucher for $400...

Any Snap On dealers in the house??

I had the student discount a couple years ago, like others have said, I did everything over the web. Snap On even keeps records of what you purchase. Keep in mind the student discount only applies to certain items, not the entire line.

Porter Cable Disk Sander starts new life as rocket launcher

Try warming the glue up with a heat gun for a minute before you stick it on, sometimes this helps if the discs are old. I have even heated discs in the microwave in a pinch and it worked.

Insulate with closed cell spray foam directly against steel panels or against barrier

The guy who did my spray foam wouldn't spray against Tyvek, he tore it all out. I didn't question it, but he did an awesome job and I love it. I think it was the best money I spent building the barn.

    Grinder Wheel Sizing Questions

Only electroplated wheels are solid steel. Resin, vitrified, and metal bond wheels all have CBN "segments" bonded to the OD of a solid steel hub and can break apart while in use. I would verify exactly what type of wheel you have before you remove the guard but personally I would never run a...

    My Somewhat Unusual Toptuls

I bought a set of Toptul wrenches about 6 months ago from Mr. Schmidt because of all the positive comments I read about them on GJ. After using them a few months they are my favorite wrenches by far and I would give up my Mac set before them.

    Snap-on KRA2422

I bought this box without a stainless top direct from Snap-On using the student discount program. This was a couple years ago but it was $2100 delivered plus they gave me a $300 gift certificate I could redeem with the local dealer.

    School Me on Abrasive Wheels

I have tried just about every type of flap wheel made, all the shapes, sizes, grits etc. I have found I mostly use a 36/40 grit for weld grinding and general metal removal. I sometimes run a 60 grit for more intricate grinding but not very often. Personally I just haven't had much use for the...

    MP&C Shop Projects

Hey Robert, the wagon is looking good, nice progress! I decided to put a sedan gas tank in my '57 Nomad and I think I remember you did the same in your wagon. Could you please post the pictures of the steel structure you made to hold the tank? I looked at a kit from Earle Williams but it...

    Polar Air Compressor????

I bought a 7.5hp single phase unit about 2 years ago and have had no problems, in fact I really like it. It's really quiet and puts out more air than I need. Unloading it was the biggest problem, my Bobcat just barely lifted it off the truck, you really should have a forklift.

    Tool Truck Startup....

I don't want this to sound like I'm trying to kill your dream, but if you don't have 20k cash to throw down on this you won't be in business very long. This is not a business you can go into undercapitalized and survive. Read over the franchise disclosure documents VERY carefully, if the guy...

    abrasive saws

The wheels are glazing because the grain in the wheel is getting dull and when it gets dull they stop cutting and start loading. There must be a constant exposure of new grain to keep the wheel cutting. The dull grain falls out when the temperature in the grinding zone hits a level, then the...

    Dornback 45K garage heater won't work ???

I got mine off Ebay but it was through Dornback, not a reseller. I called Dornback first because I had a few questions and the guy answered my questions and told me to just buy it off their Ebay site, saying it would be easier for both of us. I though it was kind of weird but I didn't have any...

    Dornback 45K garage heater won't work ???

I have been running a 45k propane unit in my 30 x 40 barn for 2 years with no issues. In fact, I came in one day after a really bad storm blew the cap off my exhaust vent and water was running out of the bottom of the vent pipe and the heater itself. I let it dry out and it fired right up.
