A Mess of Old Wood Working Machines

Tarnished, thank you. The place changes almost weekly. I stopped showing the machines coming and going, but the planes mostly just come and live here. The block head is on a newer sheet metal stand that a friend gave me. It’s a nice block head, I have all the parts for it, but took them off to...

A Mess of Old Wood Working Machines

A new old place for my planes. This cabinet came from my late mother’s house. It was there long before me and was , I was told, the upper part of an old fashioned kitchen cabinet like a Hoosier cabinet. It will stay with me now as long I last.

    Old ****

Some of my favorite chisels and hand saws as well my Unisaw came from the shop of a fellow named Stanley ( no,really ). His names adds much value to these tools for me. In addition to the fact that they are excellent for their designed purpose, I got Stanley's story from his son and I keep it in...

A Mess of Old Wood Working Machines

Here's a rare picture of work in the "mess". Doing a little adjustment to the barn door style baby gate that I made for my son and his wife.

A Mess of Old Wood Working Machines

I've made a few upgrades to the "mess" lately. Here's a new old bench I found last weekend. It's been the object of a multi year search. That is to find one priced like a workbench and not priced like a kitchen island or some other decorative object. It will only be a bench as long as I have it...

The Studio Kitchen Cabinet & Shelf Build

Good job Ryan: On the woodworking ( you are certainly not a novice) On the filming ( I don't know squat about filming but I know what I like) On showing how blasted good the Festool dust collection is. (I can't believe you do wood working right beside the beautiful custom car and don't get it...

Vintage Delta Contractor Saw: Dust Collection

Ryan, that's a real nice piece of work! I like your orderly process and the outcome is excellent. The opening in the back of a contractor saw is the age old problem for dust collection, but looking at your final scene, I wondered if you could make a panel that covers the opening and is removed...

His channel is great, I've been watching for sometime now.

    PEX or PVC

Another vote for PEX. For all the reasons mentioned above and one more that my son and I ran into recently. In an old house with frozen and split copper we simply couldn't get to the damage to fix it and any pipe requiring fittings would have given us the same problem. We used the PEX and just...

    Artisan\'s Asylum

I'm just glad that they are out there, both the maker spaces and the makers. Americans are supposed to be makers. Just like here on GJ, it's heartening to see we still are!

    The Systainer Cart

Great job Ryan! Both on the video and the cabinet. For a guy who says he's not a woodworker, you're a pretty darn good woodworker! I cannot get over the clean cars setting beside a wood project. The Festool dust collection is awesome.

    TTP Hard Drill Bit Review

Thanks for the good review Ryan I've been getting some "better" bits, blades, and semi-consumable stuff. I think I'll get some Viking bits. Love the Craftsman drill press!

    Small Two Car Operation

Herb, I really like the buffing and polishing station. I have something like that but not so well executed. I think if i can ever get back to working on the shop ( and not the house) one of my first jobs will be to bring it up snuff. I'm thinking about a "Binford" color scheme as seen in the old...

    pressure washer pump going out?

Is there any chance it froze, even a little in the winter? They don't always split open, sometimes the seals just fail and you lose pressure. I replaced my pressure washer last year, but it would have been cheaper to change out the pump. Sometimes I just give in to the simpler solution.....
